New phone?

Lately my 2 and a half year old 4th gen iPod has become increasingly slow and is really starting to annoy me with the continuous app crashes and home button not working. I decided it's time to get something new.

I decided not to get a new iPod but rather just update my phone which I find to be too small and a bit outdated. I think I would stick with Apple as I found it reliable in the past and am just not sure which iPhone I should get.

I would rather not spend so much money on one and was thinking towards a 4th gen but will they soon be obsolete and not run PL and many other apps or will Apple somehow (I'm sure I've heard of this before but not certain so sorry if it sounds stupid) switch off all updates and not support the 4th gen version of there devices?

It would be great if anyone had some handy advise about what I should get and if I have to I wouldn't be afraid to spend the money if I know that they will last as long as my previous experiences will Apple have.

If you aren't looking to spend so much, iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 are great deals at WalMart right now. Currently, with a 2 year contract, and iPhone 4S is free while an iPhone 5 is just $99.

The iPhone 4S should hold you over for another 2 years.

Thanks I think I might get a 4s then. I'm in Australia and WalMart is unheard of where I am... and I would also rather buy outright as I'm not the most social and a contract wouldn't be worth it :P. But if the 4s is going to hold for 2 more years, that's good to hear.
