Hey so I would like to ask the community -

What are the top 10 tips or advice you tell new players to help them when they start PL?

I'm just making a list so that I can help new players when they start playing.

Here's some of mine for example:
1. dont give out your email or password
2. you can buy potions for gold from Ellie
(Join a tier 3 guild to get them cheaper)
3. buy weapons or equipment from cs at balefort castle - add them and invite them)
4. you can also make gold by selling weapons and equipment at cs
5. get all the free platinum offers
6. dont beg / dont scam
7. pinks are best, then purples
8. how to guild chat
9. how to kill enemies including combos
10. how to add skills, skill points, and attributes and what effect that has

That's just some of many - what are yours?

10 advice would be - enjoy, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy the game as you like and don't forget that these are real peoples behind the chars so act accordingly.

12. If someone bothers you, mute them and move on
13. Items can also be liquidated for fast gold
14. Don't be afraid to invite high levels to your game if you really need help, but always be polite. If you say "join me" or "level me" they're less likely to help than if you said "do you think that you could help me defeat this boss?"
15. Join the forums!

I think joining the forums is the biggest thing. Well I guess now it doesn't matter but back then when PL used to get updated and new caps I was so lost. All the updates came at me from surprise because I didn't have a forums account. Forums also help them get familiar with the game and access to help/guides.

Later joined forums.

Nowadays when new players start out pvp, it's almost impossible to have fun. Most levels are dominated by forgs so new players don't even have a chance. They have to make a few hundred grand to buy a forg and beg for a build just to survive in pvp. It's not very welcoming...

Learn what are valuable items.

If you get one dropped on you, people will try to low ball you right away on its value so be careful so you wont feel ripped off later when you find out.

Find some good teammates to play with. It makes the game 100 times more enjoyable to tackle dungeons together and have fun.

Need a mirror here.

It's always been tough for new comers to start pvp and survive it without proper friends and guilds, the pvp community always been super harsh to new comers, they bullies, smash blah, blah

and if your talking about forgotten bows, then it actually did the exact opposite thing that you said. Forgotten bows gave newbs better exposer in term of gold, and so called 'less skill'

So the advice or tip would therefore be:

"If you want to get into pvp, then join a pvp guild and have good friends that will teach you to how pvp and advice on a good pvp build. It takes time and gold to challenge the best at pvp so be patient. There's also more pvp information you can read on the forums too."

Joining the forums is by far the tip I give the most, and to me the most important; I got a lot of good info here when i was a noob (last week lol).

What's sad is when I ask ppl, "Have you checked the forums here?" - almost invariably I get "Huh? What forums?"

I tell them to never fall for the cheesy merchants that overpopulate Balefort Castle with their spam these days.

Buying Pinks/Drag/Elites/Sets/Items 500k+ 50% off, no Noob, Frozen, AO! $$Quick Cash$$!

Besides, who even came up with that Quick Cash phrase? It's so overused these days by those wannabe merchants.
And those money signs, seriously makes me feel like jumping off Mount Fang's peak.

What about boosting / power levelling? Do you think a good tip or good advice to new players would be to advise them not to be boosted straight away when they start playing for the first time? That way they learn how to play, attack, and what skills do as they level up.

Don't power level people who just started playing.

Sort of off topic, but I guess I should put it here. I really think that STS made a bad choice lowering the XP requirement for each level. I met a level 45 rhino and I told him to tank. He replied, "What's tank?" I think people should learn their class well.

Well I wrote out 10 things then lost it. I'm down to just one now:

Run with those at your level. The reward is bittersweet in the end.
