Found this today... lucky for me I use Chrome and didn't accidentally click "Buy Combo Elixer".

happened to me too.. too bad you cant join your team using this method coz the buy button overlaps the join button.. have to join them by clicking on their names then join

On Chrome you can still click the sliver of blue which is the "Join" button, but I wouldn't recommend trying.

You should ask for a refund. Not only to get your platinum back, but to bring visibility to the issue. So it can get fixed.
