Purchasing Platinum with ITunes Card

So, I just bought myself a $10 ITunes card bringing up to total to $10.50.
I decided to support sts and buy platinum but everytime I try it says "insufficient credits remaining".
A friend once told me they charge 7% tax, could this be the problem?

Yes, I remember I bought an 100$ itunes card, and after successfully purchasing the highest platinum offer, I had about 2-3$ left on it :)
