I know that we should be discussing mages and I'm a warrior, but hear me out. Being a tank I notice when everyone else dies, and the weakest mages I know don't have shield. They, instead, have heal. Mage heal (to be brutally honest) is nice because it restores mana. An elite party shouldn't rely on any heal besides a warrior's since it restores so much more HP (about three times as much as mage's). Its called potions, a good party knows to use pots and not complain about mana. Another thing anoying about mage's heal is the high taunt it puts out; now everyone is attacking you untill i regain aggro or you die (usually die). Only time I understand mage heal is a PvP build. But, for pve please get: shield, clock, fire, (last your choice).

Shield- because I don't want you to die
Clock because mob control is always desired
Fire because of stun (nuff said).
(Your choice)- even the other three you may disagree with.

Last time: GET SHIELD INSTEAD OF HEAL!

A good mage knows when to use lifegiver without getting aggro'd to death.

Lifegiver isnt a must in most pve maps thats true but its a very nice bonus, i havent died in any elite maps cept for boss bugs in nordr or elite skull cove where tanks die too lol

I think its possible to farm very well with a mage using Lifegiver fire clock and ice if the rest of the team is good too.

In my opinion shield is only needed for elite bosses or pvp

I prefer shield over heal for elite because the amount of damage reduction of shield is greater then what life giver recovers. Shield will keep me from dieing where as live giver is useless if I am dead. IMO, for elite fireball, time shift and ice is needed. Fireball doesn't knockdown/stun everything so charged time shift keeps them away and ice deals with mobs that do massive AOE damage like blue pigs and crabs.

Seriously thinking about respeccing now

from: fire, light, heal, shield
to: fire, ice, clock, shield

I currently have 5/5 passive in crit, but it seems a waste since I don't crit often enough

hmmm. at boss switch ur pet to ribbit. 5/5 crit is good if u manage to get around 20%+ crit overall
and ribbit arcane ability is 3 sec so it is enough time to use light.
tap ribbit arcane and quickly tap light. u dnt need to charge light to crit.
d problem is u r using charged light lol.
charged light is needed to hav a chance of aoe dmg bt only if u giv upgrade bt i dnt recommend.

First off, thanks for admitting that people need to learn how to use pots. I'm tired of hearing warriors and rogues complain that I don't have heal.

I personally do not use either, I use full offense. I rarely die outside of elite bosses, and mainly only on those with 1 hit kills (where shield is only helpful if I happen to have it up with the 2s invul at the time). I use pots, lots of them, and when I'm low on pots I buy more.

Switch it to dex, it's a great secondary. A little more damage, a little more health, a little crit. It's far better than crit on its own, and depending on your build could be better than damage. If you're looking for max damage, go with dmg, but if you're looking for overall strength dex is better than damage due to the health increase (but not all out sacrificing damage like going for strength is). For passives I would put them in the order of int, dex, dmg, str, crit.

I don't think passive damage makes a difference valsa...
Tried using it and without it.. its bugged..
Results are same..

It does work, many have tested it. It is also well known that it does not DISPLAY on your stat screen, but it DOES increase the damage you do.

For example, when using slag my damage stat is higher than when I use colton. But the damage I do is higher with colton. Same goes for Abaddon (more than any of the other two), stat screen shows lower but actual damage dealt is higher.

I have done a fair amount of testing with & without passive damage and I can say your auto attack and skill damage does do more with passive damage. Where passive damage doesn't help is where the skill formula would only take stats into account. Life giver or shield for example. 5/5 Dex gives you +125 HP so this is the main advantage and you only get a small boost in damage. And 5/5 STR gives you +250 HP.

Will use passive damage in next expansion..
Currently its only giving +15 to 18 damage extra if ur damage is 300+... I had been using passive damage long time...
did not give me much of an edge.. instead using passive str now... makes shield stronger.. last longer in fights...
