KDR Question?

This may sound dumb, and I'm still very new to the forums and posting, but how does KDR work? I decided to try for the PvE one, and passed the fifth place number of kills, but I don't know if you have a KDR or not if you haven't died. Ha, ha, I'm lost. Do you need a single death to register?

Kills divide by deaths,
Btw leader boards doesnt update every time.
Sometimes it maybe 30 mins. To update the ldrboard
