I got the achievement on my first run, even though I got hit a ton of times by the boss while the purple circle thing was on me.

It means you can't run into another party member (rings colliding). You can still get hit by the boss.
Anyway, this achievement is entirely too easy - especially if you get Glob or Stahl. I think the difficulty of this needs to be addressed. My suggestion is make the achievement exclusive with fighting Mother, since she poses a threat of pulling people into each other with her web.
