View Full Version : Change 10000000 into 10.000.000

My suggestion is really simple, add a 1000's seperator in trade windows.

After several attempts of people trying to pull the old 'remove a zero' scam on me, it got me thinking. If there was a 1000's seperator, these things wouldn't happen that easily.

Especially when playing on a tiny phone screen, it can be really hard to see the difference between 10000000 and 1000000 especially when some scammer quickly removes a zero before you accept the trade. Now, if it were 10.000.000 or 1.000.000, the difference would be much more clear and so less victims to this lowlife form of scamming would occur.

So yeah, please add a 1000's seperator STS/G.

As always, all constructive feedback is welcome :)

I think it's because in the other STS MMO's the maximum amount that can be traded is 'only' 9.999.999. That's one less zero to mess around with during trades, so it's a bit easier to spot.

But yeah, with the higher trade cap in AL, it's something you'd expect to be there.

I can't seem to get the pictures from my iPhone, so I will just post in this thread instead of starting a new one. Certain numbers are offset from the line, like 7 and 9 are lower, 8 is higher and 0 is even. My suggestion is to ~fix~ that so they are all even, and then just use what it was doing to offset the third digit.

I normally never do trades on my phone but I did today. It was almost as if people smelled I was having trouble counting the digits on that tiny screen.

When someone fairly known tried the 'disappearing zero' act, she almost got me because I didn't expect that person to try and scam me or anyone else like that. Luckily I basically saw the amount 'jump' 1 position to the right when she quickly removed a zero, right before I was going to click on confirm.

Ow well, screenshots have been taken, reports have been sent, but all this could possibly be prevented if the digits were easier to count.

It's come to a point where I'll be using display recorder to film and report every single person that tries this scam me with some lame trick like this. High value trade? Make sure you're smiling cause you're being recorded! :D

The number 10000 will rather be written 10,000 (UK and US) with comma, well ya know 10.000 with dots is how we Europeans count. ;)
Another method would be just to let some space between, like 10 000 000 000 (transition metric). But I think this < wouldn't really improve for tiny screens.

I have to admit, I always confuzzle the comma with the dots as well. ;)

This also seems like a good idea. This wouldn't increase the space needed to display a big value, so if space is a concern this could very well be a solution to the problem.

Personally, I hope for a 1000's seperator in form of a dot (or a comma -referring to quote below-) because it just seems more natural and visual to me. I'd have to see your solution on a small screen first before being able to judge that it would be visually clear enough (not saying it wouldn't be).

I realised it after posting but then figured I wouldn't be posting anything in miles, feet, galons or other US metrics either :p

Even with how much I'd like to post her name it would only contribute to drama, not to mention I'd be breaking the forum ToS. I did send STS a detailed report about it, so I hope they'll handle it properly.

That said, I will let all my friends in game know who to watch out for and if anyone else is interested, I'd PM them the name.

You got to look at the bright side though, if someone hadn't almost succeeded to scam me, I probably wouldn't even have thought about posting this suggestion. I never realised how easy it was to miss a zero on a small phone screen.

Haha, I actually counted the zeros.

Comon STS/G, how hard can it be to make the numbers be displayed in a more 'scam secure' way? Hardly any programming needed and different solutions in this thread. The 30 minutes programming time is probably earned back in a couple of days by getting less 'I got scammed by a disappearing zero' support mails.

Wouldn't this be a win-win for both STS/G and their customers? And that with minimal effort from the developers?

PM me bro

On the topic of the topic. I make it a habit to count the zeros. Maybe more than once. But even doing that its possible to mess up. Its an easy fix for an exploit that can really hurt the player base.

It's amazing how many people try that trick if you're selling stuff with a lot of zeros in it. I make a habbit of counting the zeros too, some scammers quickly close the trade if it takes a bit too long. That's another sign that they're trying to trick you if you didn't have the chance to count the zeros yet.

Ow well, I think STS is very hard at work to bring us the next expansion, but if the community shows this is necessary I'm positive the devs won't let us down. Maybe add it for the next expansion?

I usually trade in numbers with less zeros, like if something is worth 100000, I'd sell for 99750, so i can keep track of the.numbers, and i still don't undersell for much

That's smart but we shouldn't have to use workarounds like this, especially when it's really easy to improve.

exactly. Or if they could make "gold bags" or something. Like in this other game I played, their gold cap is at 999,999,999 (Yes they have commas but they still have a way to make it easier) where you could turn your money into "Perins". Beside your "gold pocket" there is a button in which you can click to make perins which is worth 100m. It will then be turned into a 1 slot item that when double clicked will again give you 100m gold...

or they could simply put commas.

I like the idea but it would take a whole lot more programming as compared to just adding a dot or a comma as 1000's separator.

It does sound like a cool idea though :)

Very badly needed... every single time I have been selling a high value item someone tries this scam on me. It varies in that sometimes they will trade, put in the correct amount of gold and confirm, and then while I'm adding the sale item they quickly unconfirm and change the amount, or simply just put the lesser amount right from the start. I'd never thought about how hard that must be to detect on a tiny screen til I read this post, but we are constantly warning guildies trading high value items to count the zeros!!

Even a simply space would work well compared to what we currently have.
