Here is the first look at the coming Sorcerer Arcane Staff that will be very rarely found in the coming Realm of Shadows expansion.

39010

Equipped the Staff provides a neat particle effect similar to the fire bug from Nordr. A purple spirit that floats around the player and a small arcane circle as well.

39015

Normal attacks have a chance to proc +60 int, +10 mana regen for 8 seconds, and chance on hit to apply a pushback to enemies

39017

Charged Attack will 100% of the time cast a new Shadowflare spell. This is a shadow fireball with a chance to reduce enemy crit chance, and/or snare movement by 30%. It is an AoE spell with the area being equivalent to a charged fireball. This costs 0 mana, but does a little bit less damage than charged fireball. Charging takes 1.8 seconds.

Hi Samhayne. Can you clarify for us as to whether or not the "Shadowflare" spell will cause the typical stun that results from charged attacks? Also, does only the Shadowflare ball project outward or is it in unison with the typical staff "flash" attack? Thanks for reading.

PLEASE rethink this, random pushback is one of the WORST things for sorcerers. We rely on crowd control, scattering things is the opposite. Take it out, or replace, either way... knockback is bad for crowd control.

Do these effects apply to charged attacks as well (as in, chance to get +60 INT)? Looking at the warrior one, it just says on hit (which would imply normal and charged attacks), so I'm wondering if the charged attacks of this (since it has it's own effect) also has that chance.

Thanks for the reply, Swede. My apologies, perhaps I could have worded my question better. You mentioned "It does not stun like the regular fireball does". What I'm referring to is the 1 second stun effect that normal, charged attacks from a weapon emit - not fireball's. Since Shadowflare is the charged attack from the staff, does it stun like any other weapon would?

Can you change push back to snare (normal attack) and to root (on charged attack)? It makes more sense..
Will shadowflare be also a new sorc skill?

mana regen is not very usefull now.. please add a bonus to HP or STR instead..

I like pushback effect but i agree that mana regen is useless. Bytheway it's a very powerful staff

AGREE!!! We need HP, HP, HP.. and HP.. (maybe HP will be good also)

Geez... As i said.. A stick wid ball in it. Simple but it make ppl enjoy it XD Great Job STS.. A simple statistic says You had to do somethin great in time XD Yes. Aplause from me :) Nice look. And procs. :3 Now Tell me the name XD

NOTE TO JELAOUS ROGUES (:D) : This is arcane weap so we can be "Super duper" too with it.

I agree with Don, it's definitely not a universal truth. Dondarrius is one of my favorite mages to run elites with - I can't recall any mages I've run with that excel so well at using push backs for crowd control. You should hold classroom sessions Don on how to use pushbacks :)

Pushback is not only very useful, but if you crowd control right, you can use it to push mobs into traps! That, IMO, is great.

Also, the other proc of reducing crit by -30% as well as snare really IMMOBILIZES rogues. Think about it... 30 percent crit reduction for a rogue means no more insane damage. Thus, this weapon is more than powerful enough for the next campaign.

There is no stun component to the Shadowflare spell for that very reason.

Also, it should be noted that the Maul of Ollerus has a chance to proc +60 strength. The staff is on par for arcanes in this regard. The pushback associated with the normal attack is slight, and not going to push everything across the screen. The damage from it is also pretty nice.

In regards to health, there is also the typical Int, Str, Dex, and Crit component as the base stats for the item that are not yet disclosed while we tweak them.

The reasoning behind the Shadowflare not stunning is it would be too overpowered as a free cast. The charge time to case it however is lengthy while in combat, and probably works as an in between for normal damage rotation rather than a replacement for another spell.

It is however, fun to play with :)

I'm curious, will the arcane be available through an elite chest system will little to no chance at finding =0.2% or less or will sts change the drop method to upon completion? This game is geared to much for platinum buyers leaving little to no chance for normal farmers and grinders to have a shot at just mythic. As it is elite golden warchests aren't worth opening unless you have 50 or more but space costs platt lol and you can't even store them in your storage! I'm looking forward to the expansion but I'm a little disappointed in the chest/drop scale % for the game. Still love you guys at sts.

PS
Don't use free offers from trial play its a scam and they don't pay up. W3i is a little better as long as its download based. I was missing 1800 platt and only got 65+ of it so far. Been 2 months now and customer service is a joke.

Yes, CONTROLLED push backs are useful if you know how to use it properly (like gale). The staff gives a chance at push back, meaning random and as a staff it hits multiple targets. Look at the mythic gun proc, happens randomly, has push back, mobs go flying.

The old guns, with push back on hit, were ok because it was single target, you could use that in a controlled way. But uncontrolled, random, push back on multiple targets is a hindrance more than a bonus.

Also, it should be noted that the Maul of Ollerus has a chance to proc +60 strength. The staff is on par for arcanes in this regard. The pushback associated with the normal attack is slight, and not going to push everything across the screen. The damage from it is also pretty nice.

A slight push back is still enough to push something out of my time field and then free them to attack me more.

Not a hard cap to prevent people from getting in to Shuyal, but a recommended level and certain quest completion requirements will exist.

If you can complete the necessary quests through Nordr at a level lower than the recommended than by all means :)

Note the red glow on the smurf's staff hand, & greenish blue whisps above the toon's head. I assume the toon is outfitted with the most top end gear- being outfitted in upgraded mythics & all. The toon's jewerly has the same effects as the current season's mythics. So, will new mythic rings & pendants have the same effects, or are the current mythic rings/pendants still going to be "best" gear?

Can the DEV check the "charge" skills of Kershel staff, it is taking too long to charge 5-6 sec (mentioned 1.8sec) and the process spell is has low damage compared to FB.. 30% snare chance is not really significant unlike Arcane maul no charging require with too often stun rates and longer than FB Stuns....

The scepter is the best pve weapon, however in pvp, it kinda sux.. Good hp, but even the mythic staff is competitive, unlike the maul, the scepter owner isnt a 'bad mamajama' in pvp.

Now that would be cool... dual hand staffs and guns. Maybe an idea for the future STS/G :D

That is an awesome idea. It went runic flare(mythic gun) then mythic staff and arcane staff. I would love to see a dual wield arcane or mythic gun for l36 or even l41!!! Just the thought makes me want to buy tons of plat and save up..

"Charged Attack will 100% of the time cast a new Shadowflare spell. This is a shadow fireball with a chance to reduce enemy crit chance, and/or snare movement by 30%. It is an AoE spell with the area being equivalent to a charged fireball. This costs 0 mana, but does a little bit less damage than charged fireball. Charging takes 1.8 seconds."

Comparing to Arcane Maul Ollerus, the chance AOE stun and +60str, reduce armor 50% does not require the weapon to be charged.

For Kershel a level 36 weapon uncharge skill only gives +60int chance and +10mana regen, no other process like maul stun, and i would think ShadowFlare spell should be an un-charge skill to make it more competitive as an Arcane weapon.

Charging Kershel takes > 3-4 sec rather than 1.8 sec as mentioned which when you will die before finish charging the staff.

I posted a more detailed review of the ShadowFlare in this thread:

Probably the most disappointing part of this is that on a charged attack you have 75% chance of getting nothing (no crit reduction or snare). And the snare is pretty much useless given its short duration and while 30% sounds like a lot. Your movement isnt really limited.
