View Full Version : Fake contest, hope not.
Why do I have a feeling that some contests here are just made up.
Topic starter with few posts (mostly posting a few words on other threads) asks a signature with great prize.
Participants rush in. Some entries have quite same concepts and then topic starter announced its winner.
Winner confirmed the deal and the topic starter vanished and never to return again without even using the signature (unless he reads this post and starts posting and using the sig to make it legit).
Been observing the pattern for weeks now and decided to come out and share my thoughts.
Please expect a change of the contest routine especially after reading this one. Things will try to make it look legit from then on.
There's this one time that the participant and author's post got mixed up. Happened perhaps due to confusion between mule forum accounts and posts were removed. I hope I was just dreaming.
Perhaps, the objective here to get fame, which really requires good skills and legit contests.
I've been lurking in this forums and I can, somewhat, tell which contests are legit. Not to mention, these were created from active forumers/players, and been participated by really skillful people.
I hope I'm wrong.

I agree with you some of these contests are bogus and didn't pay the winners (ex. make me a sig contests). There's even contests asking for donations and doing lotteries,lol, then the guy disappeared. Personally, I made several contests since Season 1, here they are:
1. This is my very first contest, wherein I asked contestants to cooperate defeating Bael as well winning this contest.

4. Dying while playing the game is inevitable, but some players keep their 0 death count clean, so I asked those players with death counts to join my contest and win a prize.

5. Snaggle and Wrathjaws then dropped like crazy on some of the elite maps, so I decided to give away a pair by guessing a short trivia.

6. My Christmas contest, yehey, I thought, why can't we sing in-game, so I decided to make this contest and asked other singers to join me (we have Santas here,lol)

7. My retirement contest, I gave away a million gold to the winner. I didn't regret this because I recoup my gold by farming. Some convinced me not to quit and they succeeded.

8. Its has been a practice of STS to announce who are the top 50 who capped early when a new expansion is released. I made a 'guess what my place is" contest. You can try this also, just ask H2N privately about your place and make a contest out of it.

I really did enjoy making contests, its my way of giving back to the community. I made some people happy and made some friends as well. What inspires me to create contests is that there's always a moment when I'm in game that I discover some interesting elements of the game that would make a good contest, like chests, eggs and even bugs. Keep an eye to this section, I might give another contest soon.

Every 1 likes to have some thing that differentiate them from the rest..... this is where the concept of a sig comes in..... sig makes ur post more classy and attractive.... and those not skillfull enough to make their own sigs need help from others..... thus its totally legit to hold contests for a small price and get urself a sig done by a person much more skill full than u...... whats so bogus about this??? I personally have two forum accounts and have held contests for both the sigs.... and to answer the above question as to why 2 forum accounts.... 1 of my forum accounts is a twink and the other a lvl 36 one with both of them from different classes and different guilds.... so I totally dont understand why people come up with these kind of posts ... and think about it... what would people get from holding fake contests??? :/ :/

If you refer to the many contest bob won i can definitly say he makes greats sigs though. I tried to beat many times and i did it already and i will in Future too. Its just a matter of time... The contest i joined yet were mostly serious one. I know its annoying to see all the time bob winning but if you see his sigs you have to be honest and say that he does really great.

Sure there might be some scam (like the one marshi won once and didnt get the payment)
Or fake contests ( like the 300k giveaway who never showed up again),

Don't expect everyone will love Your sigs. There r senses and pepole have diffrent desires and thoughts.
Lets say i will make a contest. And beel will make golden apple. But i don't like apples, and Juicy will make normal "smile" and he will win cause i prefer smile than apple. No matter how good You are, if You won't hit host desire You won't win. Ofc if both contestants hit the same desire, then, their skills will choose :)

Not really copying his sig and that was obviously just me pointing out that you can't just grab someone's work for greed but that case was already settled. I can actually make sigs though I haven't got any free time to do so. If I have an intention to plagiarize, I think it'll look better.

Not sure who you're referring to but it's impossible for sig makers to cheat, but rather steal. It's best to come up with your own concept or innovate other designs than relying to website signature generator. LOL.
By the way, STS does not entertain cases on signature deals. Hope participants will be keen on participating contests. Good luck everyone.

There should be a contract with some kind of "topic moderator" if thats possible
He (or few of them) need to check if the winner got their prize, screenshot of the transfer perhaps will be enough .
Or if the maker of the contest doesn't give prize to the winner, he gets banned or whatever, but punished.
I hope you will do something about it :)
