When I equip the elite vanity set an icon shows where normally buffs or elixers show - what does this icon mean? What extra powers do you get?

I believe that's the indicator that you're wearing the shadow disguise that you get for doing the elite dragon killing quest. I don't think you get any actual power from it; it merely lets people know you're wearing this disguise. I guess the devs wanted a tell for the disguise since it makes rhinos look like bears and foxes like mages.

The buff simply makes the entry to fight the elite onyx appear

Same with the Halloween costumes but the symbol looks different.

Yeah right.....I heard that the past Halloween there were disguises which were debuffs to you own stats. Is it true for this too?

I don't think that's true, but we should be able to find out in a month or so.
