Rifle vs Staff

Which do you prefer and why?

Just turned 36 and am looking for an endgame weapon. Can't decide between a rifle or architect staff.

Also, what is the range of rifle vs staff? Gale is 9m while frost is 14m, which is a good reference. Thanks!

Rifle shoots farther but only hits one enemy. Staff hits 3 enemies at once. I prefer staff for mobs and a gun for bosses.
