Let's see, all the maps, maybe 30 respecs (so far) extra character, extra stash slots, 5-6 hats, 7 halloween packs, some plat gear here and there, I won't mention how many consignment slots I'll buy.

PL came out on 04/03/2010.

I found it on 04/07/2010 and signed up. I then spend $1.99 each for Dark Forest Campaign, Balefort Castle, Fathom Crypt and then Lost Expedition. So that is $7.96. We originally got two character slots and so I bought a third one for $0.99. I also bought Emote Packs I & II for $0.99 each. New total is $11.92.

Then Plat came out, so I bought 800 Plat for $49.99.

That brings my total spent so far to $61.91. This does not include Pennsylvania sales tax of course at 6%.

I have 551 Plat left, so I am good for a while.

EDIT after 1.5: Just dropped 80p to blow on face customizations for 5 of my 6 characters. New total left is 471 plat.

I bought plat in smaller increments, three times. First I simply spent $5 to see what more campaigns were like. Then, when those ran out I spent $10 more and got more campaigns, 5 respecs, and some more characters. That ran out and I wanted more characters and respecs, plus I was starting to want a bigger stash, so I spent $10 more. After all that and buying the newest campaign for 20 plat, and halloween rentals, I am down to 11 plat. I might make more characters, but I already have 8. Or maybe I will get more respecs. I am pretty sure I will spend another $10 before Christmas. In short, $25 so far, and more expected in the future.

every map
all the pvp maps
extra character slot
2 hats
5 items
one 5 respec
extra inventory slots(which oddly were deleted after the 1.4 update)
and 50 extra stash slots

Looks like about 65$. This includes $10 I spent on a secondary account for testing purposes. I have all campaigns and PVP maps on my main account, and a couple on secondary. I have Two 'extra' characters, 3 styling hats, and two halloween 'packs'. I also upgraded my stash to 75 slots, and one of my 50 slot characters to 250 slots. The rest has been spent on respecs. I just purchased a $20 pack for my main which is included in that number and I have not used the plat yet, but expect the bulk of it to go to respecs and the next elite dungeon.

You can play happily on $20 alone.
That's what i've been sitting on for the past 2 months and it's been going well so far.

Although as the game progresses, you will probably have to spend a bit more than that..
But if you're new, i suggest buying $20 worth platinum.

I may want another $20 worth soon. I think total for me is around $40 so far lol...

Of course, those are l33t startup costs. Now I'm pretty much set for life, maybe a few extra char inventory and reatats along the way...

Some of these answers are the reason companies are turning to freemium type games rather than subscription based. I bet they make so much more money from them!

$4000 ?? you could have played a subscription game with all its features included in the price for over 20 years with that amount of money!! lol

I have multiple toons within those accounts except the mule account...:p I like to keep things organized and I always assume a game is hackable...and I like being in multiple places at a given time for several reasons too.

The difference is that I do not want to nor have the time to sit down and play a desktop game.

Mobile MMO gaming is the way to go for me & I'm willing to pay for that practicality.

Been playing since February and have spent about $250 so far, but still have about 2200 plat left. I spent extra when they had the plat sale last month, so this should last me quite a while.

Freemium games and subscription games are on both mobile and on PC neither is exclusive to one device.

I was just pointing out why I can see companies are turning to cash shops judging by the amount people spend in them compared to subscription games where everything is available for a set price per month.

The difference is that PL is the most unique of its type.

Sure, I could play O&C and tbh, I have. It sucked, big time. Dev support was non existent & basically was a copy of WoW. I'll pay money for creative content & game styles, not some mimic Gameloft can make money off of.

I realize that there are a few others out there, but as of right now, STS dominates the mobile MMO front.

Anyways, how is the freemium model a bad thing? It satisfies both the players who don't want to pay for game play content as well as those who are willing to pay for their games in order to get that extra edge.

Bolded the section where it was implied. By telling me how I could have spent my money & saying it would be better worth for me to play a subscription based game shows that you thought it was a bad thing, or at least that's what it looked like.

read both sentences not just the second one, I said I can see why companies go cash shops when people are spending $4000 on it, it would take 20+ years to get the same amount of money from one person in a subscription game.

ok $4000 might be an exception but unless you have the amount of players WoW has then it looks certain companies make alot more money from cash games with a few customers spending lots of money to cover the players that don't spend anything, compared to subscription games where if players arn't paying they arn't playing either.

Companies making money from a game isn't a bad thing as it means they continue to suppot the game, if subscriptions don't make money then it makes sense to go cash shops.

It's your money mate spend it how you want, I don't judge people on how they spend their money, for all I know your a millionaire and $4000 to you is like $40 to me. I was merely commentating on how cash shop games can make money for companies compared to subscription games.
