Hi, so..I've owned a mac air 2013 11" base config. For 2months now...and my it often gets hot on the bottom when I'm on youtube or Facebook..
By hot I mean 85-90degrees farenheight. (Yes I took a thermometer and saw the temp.)

is my mac's fan working properly?
Should I be worried?

PLEASE ONLY PEOPLE WHO OWN MACS OR HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH THEM REPLY.
(no trolls please.) It was a very expensive computer...
Any recommended programs to download to monitor the status?
Anyone Help?

Now a days, computer companies are making computers more and more slim because it's "better and sexier." This, along with other electronics especially the Xbox (the red ring of death), has caused some overheating issues. Why? Because slim = less fan. Sadly, we can't put water on our computers and use evaporative cooling and its high specific heat (awww, dem hydrogen bonds). I think your computer will do fine, but I'd check the surface you are using. Also, turning off your monitor isn't enough. Whenever you're done with your computer, make sure to turn it off and let it rest for awhile. I have a Macbook Pro if you're wondering :)...

I'm pretty sure you can also buy a fan base for it to sit on/the base snaps onto the laptop, helps out alot. Not sure how expensive they are, but good luck with it.

Hi!

I own a MBA 2010-2011 model (not sure), I used to play Arcane Legends in my mac but everytime I enter dungeons and fight, it has this delay and lag and it gets hot easily. I don't have any problems when I watch youtube videos, however. I'm sorry but I can't help you in diagnosing your problem.

I play on my nexus 7 and pc now.

85-90° F is actually cool for your computer, normally CPUs and GPUs are designed to handle much, much higher temperatures than what you're experiencing.

Also, take into account that the MacBook Air is something that I would consider a very weak laptop. Even when playing graphic games that shouldn't be intensive, it'll still work the CPU/GPU. Why? The graphics processor is integrated. In all honesty, most integrated graphics processors SUCK! Infact, I would go as far to say that a dedicated GPU chipset that's 2-3 years older will outperform the integrated GPU by a relatively big margin.

For Macs, keep one thing in mind. They are like Mercedes. If you're going to get th C class of Mercedes (MacBook Air) in this case, it's not worth your money. However, if you get a midline or higher Mercedes (MacBook Pro 13"-15") then only then is it worth the price.

Also, even the MacBook 13" will be relatively bad for gaming.

The only MacBook that's decent for gaming is the non retina dedicated GPU MacBook Pro 15" or the retina MacBook Pro 15".

For example, my retina MacBook Pro is able to run Arcane Legends and 2 other operating systems playing YouTube & running other processes without breaking a sweat.

Thread RE-OPENED for the nth time.

OP is contradicting his first statement with this latest statement.

Seriously, if I'll replace my laptop, it'll still be MBA. But gaming, I don't recommend it.

No....

You just edited it.

We aren't crazy, I mentioned gaming because you mentioned gaming in your original post. C'mon, this is a gaming forums...it's not like your parents are reading that you play games on your MacBook Air that they bought you for educational purposes.
