Lag/delay and database dimension

Most of us are facing increasing lags and delays in the last few days so i'm wondering if the problem could be related to database dimension.
I'm not an it technician so maybe i'm saying something stupid here but...why not clean up database deleting "dead" accounts and guilds?
With dead i mean accounts not used in the last 6/8 months, i suppose there are thousands of them. Hopefully things will run smoother.

Still laggy in cs, can't search items or retrieve my gold from auction

Gary aka JustG has mentioned that it is the new crafting etc. updates that are lagging the dBase on their servers and they expect to UPDATE and REPLACE them this week.

They use different servers to develop the game, our playing servers are not the same so that shouldn't be the problem.
