View Full Version : Make trades reversable for a short period of time

Much like the buy back feature. Trades using the trade window should be reversable. Here is how it would work:

1) You make a trade through the trade window
2) You have a screen where you can see your last trades. Lets say you only have 5 mins to reverse the trade. After this period the trades are final.
3) All items and gold are locked and can't be traded, sold or given away in those 5 mins.

So if you feel you have been scammed you have 5 mins to reverse the trade. And this should work even if the person changes their name or logs off. The only downside I see is that if the person has "buyers remorse" and not scammed they could reverse the trade. But ultimately, everyone gets their stuff back so no one should feel cheated.

+1 maybe put it on the give feature too incase someone gives the wrong item by accident. Not everyone is as nice as Beezzlbob :)

This actually seems like an easy solution to a huge problem. I haven't thought out issues that may arise but initially reading sounds good!

+1 great suggestion!

I've been thinking in the line of something similar but a bit more extended. Haven't worked out all the details yet though.

After thinking about it, I do see some troll trades coming up. You know, someone sells something ridiculously cheap and then reverses the trade just to nerve the other player.

I've seen some weird people in game so it wouldn't surprise me if this would be used to some extend.

Then again, it's a small price to pay to prevent any form of trade scamming. This would also prevent the 'Midas touch scam', because the trade could easily be reversed by the one who 'loans' the gold.

One thing to add would be what happens when someone deletes the account. The item(s)/gold should still be retrievable in that case too.

Another thing is that you should also be allowed to retrieve the item, even with full inventory. To prevent accidentally not being able to recall the item(s)/gold when your inventory got full.

I love the idea, and initially I thought that it was awesome. It would be the ultimate safeguard.

I just think too many problems will be caused by a players ability to recall the trade. No one loses out but it would get pretty tedious after a while. Imagine if someone offered you more money and you recalled your item leaving the other player supremely annoyed. That's not even taking into account what Jay said about players trying to unnerve others.

If the world were simple this would be perfect. But it's not. Shame cos it's a fabulous idea.

I understand that people could troll trade by doing recalls. But this is akin to saying, I don't want spam filtering on my email because my friend may send me a joke with viagra in the subject. Also 5 mins is a very small window. I don't think you'll realistically be getting that many offers in that period of time.

+1 This Idea could be the best solution for Scammers or Bad Trades.

It seems like it would be much better to just deal with recall trolls than gold scams, though. Maybe even a one minute window would suffice. In the case of the recall you have some annoyance but no one's hard work is destroyed. In the case of loaning assets or gold the scams this would help avoid are much more painful than having someone recall an item you really wanted.

Great idea but supposing I trade gold for X item. And during the recall time, the guy buy something with my gold. How can recall work :p

falmear
11-07-2013, 08:35 PM
I explained that, you can't buy anything with that gold. So lets say you have 10k gold. And you trade something for 20k. Now you have 30k. For 5 minutes 20k is not usable. You only 10k spendable. After 5 mins you can spend your 20k.

Lol

Imagine, though, how nice it would be to only hear abt recall trolling rather than constant griping about "scams".

I'm guessing this is a unanimous vote to implement Fal's idea.

Let's get going then.

Besides the troll aspect, this is just unneeded. You have TWO confirmation windows, to make sure you have the right stuff. That is more than enough, if you didn't notice then you are probably not going to notice in the magic 5 minute window. Then you're going to see tons of support request threads saying "I noticed at 6 minutes, can you please return my items..."

The simplest solution is the right solution. PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU ARE CONFIRMING.

Although I agree with that statement, it's obvious people fail to use common sense. Maybe it's because it's a kids game or people are just not that smart. I don't know.

Your 'solution' that people should just need to use common sense has already proven not to work. Just look at the numerous 'I got scammed threads', and that's just a really small sample size. Is it the people's own fault if they get scammed? Sure, but that doesn't make them feel any better and might ruin their playing experience to such an extend that they'll never want to play again.

You basically say, 'tough break, live with it' while most people that are posting solutions, including myself, believe that if there were valid mechanics that can be used to prevent most sorts of scams, it would make the game a better place. Especially for the people who lack, what seems natural to you, common sense.

As said, I do agree people need to use their brains, but I don't see them start doing that by a forum post. I understand that telling people to smarten up is the easiest take on the whole problem, but I believe it's possible, although harder of course, to come up with something that would actually benefit the community. How I see it is that a way that would mostly prevent having to tell anyone to double check or use common sense anymore, is better than having to tell them over and over again.

Sorry guys but i will have to stay behind Valsacar on this one.. I mean whenever i hear a "I got scammed" i just cant help myself but thinking "gg mate took some effort didn't it?" Seriously 2 confirmation windows and no time limit to press that confirm button.. double check. triple check. and btw most scam cases i hear are ridiculous. like "someone told me to buy him this item and trade him in order to give me what i asked. i bought the item and now he is gone.. wasted my money help!" Oh so you did what a complete stranger told you and now you are wondering why it didn't work out? ok........ To me it's all down to "be more careful" rather than finding fancy solutions. :(

There is no perfect solution. If you want more complexity and protection, it comes at a price.

However, i think commas in the gold amount should solve 99% of these problems

Can there be put the stats button of the item to in the trade window? the same button like in the auctionhouse?

Because we have alot items with same name different level, different stats.. So we could easly see wich item hes trading. I use that statsbutton all the time at AH.
Felt almost twice for that type of scam in a trading window.

correcto to the "T". This is a children's game, and as such, more measures need to be put in place to help people have a great gaming experience.

Yes, but what you all seem to be missing is that locks only keep out the honest people. People are going to scam, and they will always find ways around whatever system is put in place. The only defenses are common sense, and STS taking action against those that are caught (and they should be naming and shaming them, so others can see that there ARE consequences). This, suggested, system just adds more complexity and creates a new way for people to troll. It does very little to actually resolve the problem.

I've been wondering for a while why this doesn't exist. I don't think it will really help much with any types of scams, but it would be a nice feature to have either way.
