View Full Version : Patch server is broken (can't play until fixed)

After going through the account creation process, the game went to patch (ipod 4th gen/ ios 4.1). Patcher tries to download IPOHONE001.PAK. After 2 minutes, the patch server decides to disconnect instead of allowing the patching .

Horrible bug, and can't play game until this is fixed ...

An addition ...

The patch server keeps restarting from the beginning when I have to try and redownload the patch. Why not continue where left off?

Hrm, just patched fine for me, both over wifi and 3g.

Hmm, 8th try is done now. I'll just have to wait for the patch server fix :( TY anyways.

It sounds like maybe something wrong with your network connection - have patched several devices, from 3 different connection types, and all have worked without issues.

Interesting. Ahh well, it sounded and looked (from screenies and video) like an interesting game. Maybe it's not compatible with the ipod 4g? Ah, tried one last time. Looks like the game servers are now offline. Oops, i should provide more information. there was another one or two PAK files that downloaded successfully. This is the only one that's causing problems. Looks like server is back up.

It's definately compatible with the 4th gen ipod, and servers have been up, and haven't gone down. I get paged if they do. =P

Cool, looking forward to the update. I'll keep my eye out, and let others know once this can be played. Thank for the responses!

Osi, i think you should reinstall the game. It happens sometimes.

Osi

TY for the tip :) I uninstalled, reinstalled, made sure all notifications pull and push were turned off for all apps, and the os as a whole. Did a forced shutdown (menu key + sleep key). Started it back up (then reinstalled). It downloaded IPhone002.pak first, now it's working on the iphone001.pak.

And it failed. Looks like the 002 happens before the 001 file. Is it patching out of order? Could that be the problem?

Hrmm a uninstall reinstall fixes everything mostly, are you on wifi or 3G? What sort of Internet provider, if wifi us it your wifi or a public wifi or your "neighbors" wifi?

Also no offense but the problem mostly is at your end as devs have said, no servers are broke or have been down.

How much space do you have left on your iPod?

Osi

24.1 gb is the space I have left on the ipod

Really sorry you can't patch. :( Do you know if any of your friends are able to download this game and patch on their devices?

Check if you have any restrictions enabled on your iPod.
Might be the problem.

Are you jail broken?

That's a point to

Someone was playing the other day who claimed to have jailbroken their iPad... They seemed like their were playing fine. It wasn't an iPod though.

Nope, not jailbroken, directly bought from the local Costco, 32gb version. As mentioned above, all restrictions were removed, and all notifications (anything that uses bandwidth) have been removed. I have noticed that the 001 file takes forever to get 1/2 way then server disconnects the connection. The 002 file (that patched before 001 ... odd), was super fast to download.

The only peeps I know who own Ipods 4g are here in Alaska :) They have the same issue.

The only Ipod Touch available at costco are the Wi-Fi ones. Never knew they made a different connection one.

@Osi - Try this - while your iPod Touch is disconnected from your computer, delete Pocket Legends from your iPod Touch. Go into iTunes and delete it from there, then plug in your iPod Touch to your computer and do a full sync. Then download the app through iTunes, sync back to your device that way and then try again. This game is completely compatible with iPod Touch 4th gen.

Followed these directions step by step. IPhone002.pak downloaded with no problems. IPhone001.pak file, same issue.

Still says "You have been disconnected from the server."

Delete entire app from phone and itunes and redownload completely?

Osi

setec mentioned that above my post :)

Just realised :P It should do it though. Last case scenario restore your ipod. lol

How odd. Um, maybe I missed this in an earlier post, so if so, sorry - Have you tried this on a different wifi network then the one you are currently using?

Being in Alaska, might not have a multitude if options, can on if the devs post the ports that need to be open on a router for osi to chk.

Patch server still disconnecting, this time on IPhone003.pak.

Apparantly there's still something wrong with either your device or your network.

Osi,

Even if you get through patching, you're going to have disconnects playing the game (which is what is happening now with patching). Have you seen or tried what is in this thread?

http://www.spacetimestudios.com/showthread.php?12418-The-infamous-quot-Lag-Spike-quot-server-disconnects-etc.

Try the suggestions there if you haven't. I'm not sure it's possible, but the next thing I would try if you still have problems is someone else's network.

Same thing happens to me. In Colorado here. Just removed game and reinstalled.

I get 2mef/sec downloads (torrents) doubt it's my connection.

Osi

could be a router thing. Game doesnt seem to work on Cisco/Linksys routers or 2 other kinds. Works at the local McDs, but no other routers for some reason.

Karr

Wow lame. That's just like the top selling router.

Osi
12-05-2010, 07:06 PM
I should of rephrased. The game works fine, the patching does not on that router brand :( I've tried as many as I could find to make sure. as for the link above, I'll take a look at it.

Yet again. Delete reinstall. Again. Again. Oh hey not working. Why not update the app store game so we download a game that is ready to play not ready to patch?

Because all apps have to be approved, and patching is a faster way around this process. 1.5 recently got approved on itunes, but it needed a lot of tweaks to it afterwards, and it would be a lot of unnecessary hassle to get it approved on the store again and would have held up gameplay to some extent. If you're having trouble patching, and 99% of the user base isn't, you need to seriously ask yourself where the problem is.

If you can't patch, you wouldn't be able to play either.

If you can authenticate, but fail to connect when patching, that means you are unable to establish an outgoing tcp connection to 50.16.241.233, port 4082.

If using wifi, your router may be blocking outgoing connections for that port, though I've not encountered one that would do so by default.
Otherwise, it's likely that either your provider or a peer between them and our servers are blocking traffic to that ip address.

Either you or your provider can use a tcptraceroute tool to determine what's going on (for 3g connections, would likely have to be your provider).

These aren't set in stone forever, but as of now, things you need to be able to do to play:
resolve dns entries for auth.pocketlegends.com
establish outgoing tcp connections on ports 80, 443, and 4050-4100 to the following addresses:
204.236.230.172
204.236.233.29
50.16.241.142
50.16.241.214
50.16.241.220
50.16.241.225
50.16.241.233

as there is no progress from either end of the connection, is there maybe a possibility you guys could build in a failover patch/game server that reroutes the traffic to the blocked ip's?
I purchased platinum a month ago and enjoyed playing but I can only play on wifi, which really defeats the purpose (of mobile gaming)...

p.s. maybe the failover could be to try and connect using different ports? maybe the one port is just blocked...
