In City of Kelys, the NPC you purchase essence from can still talk to you. When you do, it will say whatever, but the placement of the text is what's wrong. It will start in the correct position, then move to a player near you as if they've said it. The chat bubble actually slides across your screen from the NPC to that person.
If it's important, I'm using Google Chrome 31.0.1650.48 on Linux Kubuntu 13.10.
