Hey guys.

So I'm about to do some travelling over the holidays and gonna be stuck in some long flights or waiting times. Wanted to put some movies into my ipad which I have on dvd.

I've ripped the DVDs to my computer, but still need to be able to convert them to iPad format no?

I can't seem to find a decent ipad converter (free). Paid or not I still can't find one.

Any suggestions you guys use? I'm on a windows 7 btw.

Thanks!

Anytime I try to find a decent video converter it sucks try any converter, however I have a friend how just dumps the rip straight to his iPad he does have the 64gig one though.

I wanna try that too. I don't mind having just a few movies and switching them, but I can't seem to add the videos to iTunes. Nothing happens when I use Add file to library, and I've read that you need to convert it?

Also I always try searching for "open source video converters" rather then free video converter gives better results.

www.handbrake.fr

Works on Windows and Mac

There are presets in there and one of them is iPad. Just rip the DVD to that format, drag into iTunes and sync to your iPad.

Came across that as well, currently using Aleesoft free ipad video converter, if this fails then I'll switch to handbrake. thanks!! :)

I paid once, and I'm lucky. MacVide iPad Video Converter converts various popular files such as AVI, MKV, RM, MPEG, 3GP, 3G2, WMV, FLV etc.

That's all I need.

+1 for Handbrake. I use this on my MAC. Does exactly what I need and converts perfectly for ipad/iPhone formats. Both work fine on iTunes too. Have movies on both devices.

Good Luck

I thought a program that can copy dvds to device may called ripper. Video converters (http://www.ojosoft.com/how-to-convert/ipad-video-converter.html) usually convert videos files to device.

There are a zillion ways to convert a DVD to iDevice format. The video must be converted into .mp4 or .m4v format. There are certain restrictions like maximum bitrate and resolution that you have to take into account, but other then that, you can basically use any DVD->mp4 converter.

Check out: videohelp.com for a list of tools and guides. Simply search for 'DVD (or MPEG2) to MP4' converters :)

Edit: as mentioned here already, Handbrake is a fairly easy and popular video transcoder.

RealPlayer works well for me. It can convert into tons of file formats, including the ios devices. I would recommend that. It's safe and free.

Ow yes, I use that one all the time. Didn't even think about the conversion it can do. I use it mainly to watch movies at friends. It never stops to amaze people that you're streaming a video from your PC at home. The video quality is superb and it's updated on a regular basis.

It's one of the top apps I ever bought :)

Yup! The conversion is just a bonus to me, if only I had an Apple TV or something, always wanted to try :D
