View Full Version : worth it to max Critical chance?

With the free respec weekend coming, I am considering trying out a max critical chance % build. For a sorc, that will probably mean I spec into Fire, Light, Gale and Ice, all of which have "increased damage on a critical." And using pets like Ribbit, Aspen, Horton and McCraw.

I could not find any posts saying just how much dmg normal criticals add (some suggested maybe 25 or 50%), nor could I find any posts saying how much damage "increased damage on a critical" adds Consider also that some of the best +critical chance % eq sacrifices a little bit of damage. Case in point, the Archon Ring of Force, which adds a whopping 6.38% critical chance, but lowers my damage score by 7.0 when I am wearing a a purple Ruby Band of Brutality (36):

What is the general consensus, is maxing critical chance % worth it?

What is the general consensus, is maxing critical chance % worth it?I spec'd my sorc with 5/5 passive crit and with horton at my side I have a 36% crit rate. This does wonders for damage, most especially with lightning. I see crit damage as high as 3k against a single target.

It also does a significant amount of DOT with a fully charged clock and a quick ribbit arcane attack right after which gives me a 67% crit rate. With that combo attack almost every tick is crit damage for somewhere around 30-40 damage per tick.

So I personally can vouch for running a high crit build. It's not as consistent as investing in passive damage, but with certain pet combos that doesn't really matter since you'll be doing more damage with critical hits anyway.

Keep in mind that your Clock DoT's also crit, so its a plus.

Via some in game am it seems CRIT hits are between 125% and 150%. I am thinking about trying out a CRIT build as well. And like Kei said, the DOT is effected as well. That begs for some serious damage to be done.

The math has been done on this (you can also get the excel calculator and run the numbers yourself). Damage % increase is always better than crit %. That said, if you've already maxed out damage, then yes go for crit.

Crits worth it with mythic+arcane not in pink gear IMO

Am I missing something here? I have Mythic gear, gun and neck with an arc ring thats dam n crit. at lvl 36 you have so many skill points that I have 4 passives all maxed (int, str, dam and crit). What would I do to go FULL crit from here and what would I lose?

Is this just a case of pet choice? or am I not the target player for this question having limited choice of gear thats better. I have played MMOs that have several end game outfits that work for different situations but this seems single path, All aboard the mythic train!

IMO.. If using lightning, better max crit for better chance 250% damage. Useful for fighting boss.

Do you think it's good to have a Full Crit Sorc? rather than int/str or int/dex equips build?
If YES, do you know what equips/pet (golds only) should i buy in order to attain it... tia

In general, I do not think so. If crits only add 25% damage, then 5% crit effectively adds only 1.25% more damage overall. Even a 50% crit only adds 2.5% damage overall. Thus, taking 5/5 passive crit skill points is generally not as good as 5/5 damage, or 5/5 anything else really.

The thing I am not sure about is the skills that give "increased damage on a critical hit". Aimed shot and frost bolt, for example. How much "increased damage" is it? If it causes the crit to do 200% damage, well, then we're talking. Unfortunately, I do not know.

I don't trust the fact that the dmg passive doesn't show up in the stats, I would go for something u can actually see increase, crit lightning is scary for mob and pvp

Already try passive 5/5 damage, and i feel quicker kill boss using 5/5 crit with lightning skill.... cmiiw.. I sometimes get lightning crit more than 1k

I like seeing a bunch of crit hits when I drop a clock on a large mob

So long the mage crit > 25% usually it gives critical hits using time shift, arcane pet helps with critical hits as well especially SAM.

Yea...kershal is just pure skill power, the weapon itself sucks. I only want it because when new mythic weapons are introduced I think orbital will be left behind, and hopefully they will make kershal a better weapon, imo dagger rogues and maul warriors rule pvp
