Gold Dragon Ring Award glitched?

A friend of my bought the Guardian Dragon pack off DOTD and got mitas first try. He later crafted the golden dragon helm and armor that he farmed (Pink ones) He wore mitas + Armor + Helm And no ring? Did he get screwed over or is it a bug?
