View Full Version : Grand gem upgrading - what is the percentage?

I've just wasted another 23k+ (cost of gems) trying to get four items upgraded to have Grand Blood Gems, if the 12 hour wait for the upgrade wasn't a bad enough insult, the incredibly low chance of it actually going from normal to grand is like being kicked when you're down.

What is the percentage of an upgrade actually working?

I feel we should be told.

There was a thread early on about it, to try keeping tally among players.
If I recall, the odds looked to be around 1/30?

I tried a bunch of take it nows thinking they wanted us to throw plat at the problem, but nope, not even that seems to solve it. No clue how to get em, and I have gone through a CUBIC TON of gems.

I feel like its somewhere around 5%, or 1 in every 20.

This is a game that could really lend itself to mechanics whereby after X tries you automatically get Y result, then the question is not if but when, giving those that spend the time (in the case of gem upgrading) or the money (in the case of opening locked crates with bought platinum) a definite positive outcome.

Think it's 1%..

I craft 25 devourer bows,
10 twink items,
And 3 endgame use gears a day,
I usually get one gem every 3 days.

I've gotten about 5/50-100 upgrades so its pretty low...

I've done over 70 upgrades and never got a grand gem.

Seems like my success depends on the level of item. Higher level items the success rate is much lower especially my mythic set. 5 attempts roughly per night since implementation and only 5 superior gems.

Got three the first night upgrading lower level items (level 30 and below) on a lower level toon.

Wow I guess I'm really lucky then I got 1/5 this morning on my mythic. I wonder how low the rate is I think it might be as low as the rate of the pieces when upgrading mythic helm.

5 more recrafts overnight, 5 more fails.

One guild member managed to get all their mythics with grand gems, took them literally weeks of recrafting.

Frankly I don't know if it's worth the wait + gold to try anymore.

Games should be fun, not frustrating and disappointing!

The current supergem chance is very good IMO.. it brought an excellent feeling of joy if I get one supergem on my main equip... It's so awesome that i would give away one locked crates to random people in map...

Consider just how worthless gems would become if the % of grand gems increased...I see glacial gems regularly as low as 1.5k.

Gems are already worthless. And they'll continue to drop until people have some reason to upgrade their gear. Most people give up on exceptional gems. If they increased the chances of exceptional gems, then the gem prices would go up. Because more people would try to upgrade any gear they acquired. Now people don't want to waste their time waiting for the upgrade since they expect only non-exceptional gems. The only affect this has had is it has made gear with exceptional gems more expensive. So the only outcome if they increased the grand gem chance is it would lower prices on equipment with 1-3 exceptional gems.

I have pretty much given up on the exceptional gem. I haven't seen a single one appear on anything I've upgraded since crafting launched.

Now when i manage to craft a few glacial gems I set them to upgrade my main gear overnight and hope for the best.

Meanwhile some of my guildies have all their gear with exceptionals and get exceptional gems left and right whenever they upgrade.

The system is discouraging to say the least. >.>;;

Is it luck? I upgraded one gem slot for 24 hours and bam, Grand Fire Gem in 1 go >_<

4 more overnight recrafts, 4 more that didn't upgrade :(

In my total inventory, only 3 of my items have a grand blood gem, one was the one we were given at the start of crafting, the other two were lucky upgrades long ago.

I notice that whilst the mythic leprechaun amulet has 3 gem slots, I only get +1 STR from each of the blood gems - why?

Its like the rate as everything else in this game, sometimes nothing for weeks - yes, weeks - and sometimes i made 2 at the same time.

I get the feeling that anything that has "a chance to xx" gets adjusted pretty often, and by a lot - supergems, portals, chest&crate drops, you name it.
I don't see why STS don't just adjust things a bit, but go from 10% to 90% and then back.

Not easy to get grand gem at all, but I still like this sys.....
