Lately I've seen a lot of people in Pl "selling" their cool names. Do people actually do this? Is It a scam?
Please let me know cause I'm thinking about buying one if it is a smart/safe thing to do.

Yes, people do this. It all depends on the trust though. I can't say whether it's safe or not, as this completely depends on the seller. And all I can say is, that there are frequent scams with name selling.

I suggest you meet the guy's main, if he's well known, he could be a trustworthy person, as he would not risk his reputation over a few gold (usually).

It's bannable, but it is only a temporary ban and not something that is heavily monitored.

In short, you should do this sort of thing at your own risk and if you do get scammed - STG is not at fault and will not be accountable to provide support for you.

The only buying/selling/trading that is allowed should be done via the secure trading window or through the consignment shop. Any other way of buying/selling/trading makes oneself vulnerable to being scammed and in some cases can result in a ban (like what Zeus mentioned in their post). To protect yourself from losing anything, (i.e.: gold/items) you shouldn't go for this trade, despite how appealing it may be.

I have never bought a name and I will not do it either. Why risk all that gold just for a name that you might not even get? If I trade something, it will be IN the trade window.

If someone with a good name were to rename themselves would be open for others to use now?

Is that what your talking about?

No, the OP means stuff like

"Hi gimme <# of gold> and I'll give you my name"

Then the name seller runs off with the buyer's money.
causing the buyer to lose the money, and not getting the name.

If it doesn't fit in a trade window, then its not worth trading for...its also a scam..

selling/buying names isn't Always scam, i admit i have bought and sold names in the past, and i didn't think any moment about scamming someone ( my rule is: don't do bad things to others, because you wouldn't want that to happen to yourself either), anyways, my advice is don't trust everyone, if this person seems to be a good friend, sure go ahead, but don't do this with randoms that you have never seen before, don't risk it
