Question about arcane hooks.

Hey I haven't been playing that long but I have obtained some arcane hooks on my rogue. Unfortunately looking at the magma daggers they actually have more dps than the arcane hooks.
My main question as I have not been around long was why are the hooks lvl 26 while the Mage staff and war maul are lvl 36?
Also is there any intent on upgrading these or should I try and sell before they are obsolete?

Hooks are, I would argue, already obsolete at end game. You could use them pvping at level 26 and be really powerful, but at end game they are more of a cool vanity to wear around town. Arcane weapons were released per expansion for individual classes.

Kraken (level 26) : Arcane hooks for Rogue
Nordr (level 31) : Arcane maul for Warrior
Shuyal (level 36) : Arcane staff for Mage

Out of all of those the hooks were really pretty weak except during the kraken cap and mid way through the Nordr season. People still call for maulers in pvp pretty regularly and it helps tanking a lot in pve as well - that proc is probably the best proc in the game. Hooks I would avoid if you want a weapon to use at end game.
