I'm not a super pro player by any means, but here are some tips on staring out.

- Get as many people on your Friends List as possible. The more you have, the more people you can invite to help you. This makes it much easier to make parties to run through maps for XP.
- Also, take advantage of the "Join Game" button on the World Map. You'll find it really useful for finding parties with other people your level.
- Regularly visit the Consignment Store in Balefort Castle. There are three birds in the left room of the castle that host the player store. Here you can buy items and sell items to other players. This is really useful for getting high end items. It's not really useful for the very low levels, though, because a lot of items at those levels are expensive.
- Use the guides here on the forum for how to play your character class, such as how to assign attribute points, skill points, where to level, class combos, items to use, etc.
