no there is no difference even with normal gem ( if your not lucky like me on any super gem event you not getting any super gem) so dont mind about this event :)

Actually, if you're very lucky, you can have 8 or 9 rounds of upgrading process.

It started on Thursday night (in my country) and will most likely end on Monday night (as most weekend event usually do), so it gives you approximately 4 × 24 hours which you can divide by 12 hours (1 round of gem replacement) and you get 8 rounds.

You can get another extra round if you browse the forum, and especially chatbox, often enough, which some guys spread an insider information of this event, which I, myself, missed the info :( ughhh, and completed all upgrades just after the event started :)

Probably done with gemming for good after this weekend. 0 for 20 so far, and 1 grand gem in last month probably. If I can't upgrade a gem with double the odds this weekend, so why bother trying normally? :(

Crafting was a good idea at first, now it is just a hassle, just like daily story tokens.

I've actually had way better luck this time than last super weekend. That being said, I am also running gem attempts on twice as many characters, so perhaps that is the reason.... Still it is good fun to actually see supers pop once in a while. Nice weekend sts
