View Full Version : The possibility of Pocket Legends volunteer developers?

I have read over numerous posts regarding the expansion of Pocket Legends, and while I understand the reasoning for not wanting to allocate resources to a task which yielded a less than desired result previously. But I cannot help but wonder if SpaceTime has ever given serious thought to allowing a very limited group of volunteers with skills in the development field a chance to create content for something they have come to love. Now this brings up some rather serious questions and issues. One of the most obvious and important questions would be addressing the intellectual property(etc) which keeps Pocket Legends and its counterparts in a league of its own in the mobile gaming world. So for a team such as this to exist, they would need to be vetted along with signing Non-Disclosure Agreements containing a Non-Compete clause just as if they were joining SpaceTime as a regular member of the staff. I certainly see this as a major hurdle to having this come to fruition, but maybe there is a small chance that the powers that be could see the value in something like this. I have spoken with numerous others with the skills and experience necessary who are willing contribute their spare time to improve Pocket Legends and keep it a viable source of entertainment for a long, long time.

I do also realize something like this would be much more difficult to put together and require quite a few more steps to actually implement. I imagine the reply to this post, should there be one :sour: , could be a very long list of reasons why this is not a possibility. Should this be the case, I would ask that in place of those reasons, maybe a list of possible ways someone with an extensive background in related fields could help SpaceTime to help Pocket Legends.

Best Regards,

Hi Weeg,

Thank you so much for your suggestion. It is a wonderful thought, and we've actually had a few industry professionals who are Pocket Legends fans ask about the same possibility. Unfortunately, we won't be moving forward with any new content for Pocket Legends either in or out of house. The reason for this, on top of the complicate legal issues you mention above, is that Pocket Legends is a huge product. It is a big world with lots of moving pieces, tons of data, many interwoven game systems and more. To hand that off to a separate group of people for further development would not only be a huge undertaking for us, but would be an incredible challenge for any team taking over.

In addition to this, while the game is not growing per say, we do still (and very happily!) manage and maintain Pocket Legends. We still love making new items and running events from time to time, and we're ecstatic that thousands of people log in and enjoy it every day. We love our die-hard PL fans. We just celebrated its 4th Birthday, and we are getting birthday wishes from people who have been players since day one. :) That's a serious honor. Pocket Legends will always hold an important place in our hearts, and we have promised and continue to promise that we will continue to do what we can for the live game.

Thank you so much,
Remiem

Pl cap should have stopped at L71, sorry for raining at the parrade but as game cap approached its got harder and harder to balance everything specially PvP, its just had to happen.

The whole game mechanism was based on few parameters that would not fit into new caps that kept coming.
That is why -
Sorry but new cap would not be viable. Guess what a bear having 100dodge with hit% well over 100%

Its all over, everyone will get 100% crit and hit% got saturated ages ago.

Its a good game but already gone imbalanced, devs can't afford to do it more.

Man, that's really depressing. I wish the game could just be tweaked to enough to where it's left at a good state.

Thanks for the response, Remi.

Although this is more or less what I expected when I was writing the post, I still find myself with a feeling of disappointment/sadness. Nevertheless I really appreciate your quick and thoughtful reply.

By looking at my number of posts here on the forums, it would be an easy assumption that I am new to the world of PL, however I have been around since the beginning and only took to the forums as I saw the future of Pocket Legends dwindling. Over the course of the past four years, I have searched to find a game that was able to grab onto and hold my attention the same way Pocket Legends has. So far my search has yielded zero results, and certainly not for lack of trying. I had very high hopes that Arcane Legends would be that game, but I have found myself unable to really get into it. Granted I did play 3 characters up to level 19-20, which at the time was as high as it went. But multiple attempts since then to try and get back into it have always resulted in my return to PL.

I suppose my reason for sharing any of that is to help illustrate some of the reasons for the original post, and maybe to let the developers know what an amazing job they did with this game. And while all I want to do is complain about the fact it has been deemed obsolete (although seemingly only so by its own studio) and continue to offer my thoughts and suggestions on how it could be reinvigorated without the need to raise the cap or anything so drastic. I know the reality is I should simply say thank you.

Regarding the small events and community activities that may still continue on, should the need arise for volunteers to help coordinate or aid such events, or should you find some way in which the PL community can contribute back to the game, you can count me in.

Best regards,
- Weeg
