1.) Never ever EVER put Dex into mages/pallys. Unless you want to transform your mage into a bird basically.

2.) I suggest for pally 158 str 95 int.

3.) You can farm low level pally gears in balefort. Your best bet is hidden passage or lvl 5 balefort dungeon. You can get armors, weapons, and sheilds from these maps. Or run goblin maps if you want the newer, but less valuable pinks.

4.) Pally gear is bear gear that boosts either strength or int. Usually pally's will get all the bear gear that boosts int (For m/s and mana pool).

out of curiosity, how do enchantresses built like birds do? People build dex bears, why not a dex enchantress?

I 2nd this question....

I've got nearly 107 in Dex just for kicks and giggles and the rest in INT..... also very curious as the above question.

Does hit % count for spell hit % as well? I'm just curious because if so it seems a little dex to increase hit % and crit % for spells might be useful.

I believe it does but as far as useful I don't think so, with all points in int I have 123%hit and 19% crit.

Dex increases your weapon damage, and also increases your skill damage, but not nearly as much as INT. As a mage, your concentration should be purely on your skill damage, as they vastly out damage any weapon.

They used to have the highest damage output pre rebalance. I think they still have higher damage than Pallys, but with how fast they die it just isn't worth it IMO.

Int does more for damage now rather than dex. It used to be the other way around.

Good point, it is kind of a ~compromise~. The dex mage does more damage then the Pally, but less then the Int mage. Also, they used to get a lot of dodge, which gave them good survivability, but that has been moved to str so their benefit has kinda gone away.

Ah yes. The dodge from void gear was so good pre balance. Now that there is barely any, there isn't any form of survivability for a dex mage anymore. Armor buff only does so much without a good foundation.

So it goes Int mage - Dex mage - Pally in terms of damage, but

Pally - Int or dex mage? in terms of survivability. I could say int since more int = more heal and better mana shield, though I'm not sure on the difference of void/cosmos armor.

I am not of the same mind as most on this, but I honestly believe that the best survivability on a mage is keeper, because armor or not, you take less damage from a dead mob then a live one ;)

With the right group, i.e. another int Mage or pally, I like to play dex Mage because it's just so much fun. But when things get serious, especially in ao3, I switch to pally for survivability or int for damage and spell casting because of the poor mana regen of both dex and str mages. With a good group, int mages rock.

Very true. A dead mob can't do a point of damage against you.

With chrononh's post, I guess it mainly depends on your group. Which is the benefit of dual spec-ing :P

Like Fluffnstuff and Ellyidol said.

The only reason you don't see Dex Mages anymore is because they stink now. I can't think of a more noneffective build in the game.

The mages you see with dex points nowadays are basically mages who realized later on in the game they want to be birds but don't want to remake their character.

So true for 90% of situations I encounter in the game :). The only time I find the wand/doll more fitting is durring Frozen Nightmares and Overlord. Or if the party is doo doo I'll throw on the wand/doll.

I still find the dexes for extra damages useful
for being a mage,
because obviously dex DOES give you some boost
in your damage (not in skills)

You forget that Int also boosts your weapon damage. Heres a example.

Blank stats and no Armor
1 Strength
247 Dexterity
7 Intelligence
Base Damage is 74-109.
Damage Per Second is 91.
Hit Percent is 105%.
Critical is 9.

1 Strength
2 Dexterity
252 Intelligence
56-91 Base Damage.
74 Damage Per Second
91% Hit Percent
6 Critical

The difference is noticeable but Dex can't match the massive group damage bonus of Int.

You might be thinking that Dex would be good on a PvP mage. No, Mages already have a one hit kill combo, even as a pally. So the points put into Dex is wasted. Either go full Int or put points into Str. Never ever EVER Dex.
