Yes, its annoying, but you still need to upgrade them for the 400 ap points. I'm planning on waiting another season or two, and buy them real cheap before I upgrade. Right now, they are pretty equal to the Elite-dropped Magmas, just the stats they focus on are different, whereas the Magmas are higher on the armour.
