View Full Version : So you want to run km3? (As a mage)

The sole purpose of this thread is to teach new mages how to run km3. Everyone knows that this is what mages do best, kill tons of mobs fast. And all you veterans have your ways of running km3 but today I'm going to share how I personally run it. This is a combination of being taught and also watching other people closely.

So first things first, what skills do I use. Well that depends, are you the lead mage or are you cleaning up? If you're the lead mage then I use fire, clock, gale, shield. And if I'm cleaning up I'll use fire, ice, clock, light. As a lead mage your job is to zoom forward as fast as you can and killing as much as you possibly can along the way and to also allow the mobs to spawn from the ground before your team gets there. Also all of you ADD sufferers out there, this is a great way to release it xD

When you're running the mines you should always be spamming normal attack in between skills. A staff is also preferred since you hit more mobs in one shot with it. Clocks should always be charged and fire at certain points. So let's dive right into it, shall we?

So your pt is all joined and ready. Everyone is ready to get get killing done. So as the lead mage you're gonna have gale charged and ready right at the starting point. Release gale and as soon as you let off hit your fireball, if it's timed right it will go right into the first mob in the hall on your right side. Then as soon as you've let off fire start charging your clock and drop it right on top of that first mages head. After you drop your clock start the auto attack spam and keep moving forward.

Here is where you're going to charge and hold gale.

Here is where to drop your first clock.

Next you're going to run up and you will see a hall on your right hand side, throw one fireball in and the instant you do hit your pets arcane ability, hopefully you have a pet that causes some kind of damage. I personally use either slag, abaddon or haze in km3. And here is where you will release said fireball.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/mbgarrett/Mobile%20Uploads/Screenshot_2014-06-22-00-30-42.png (http://s23.photobucket.com/user/mbgarrett/media/Mobile%20Uploads/Screenshot_2014-06-22-00-30-42.png.html)

Next you will keep pushing forward like the little blue ball of doom you are until you get to this pile of skulls. And when you reach this point you should have gale charged and ready to go. At this pile of skulls, release gale.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/mbgarrett/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-06-22-00-42-48.png (http://s23.photobucket.com/user/mbgarrett/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-06-22-00-42-48.png.html)

Also as you're zooming forward have a fireball charged. As soon as gale ends release it here.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/mbgarrett/Mobile%20Uploads/Screenshot_2014-06-22-00-31-00.png (http://s23.photobucket.com/user/mbgarrett/media/Mobile%20Uploads/Screenshot_2014-06-22-00-31-00.png.html)

Next you're going to moving up to the next point to gale. Keep in mind you should always be spamming auto attack. When you get to about halfway in between these two torches on the wall is when you should release gale.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/mbgarrett/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-06-22-00-43-42.png (http://s23.photobucket.com/user/mbgarrett/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-06-22-00-43-42.png.html)

As you're galing forward charge a fireball and hold it until you're right in the middle of the mob and then stun them. Now is when you should charge and release your shield. You're going to run up to about this point to get the mobs to follow you back and then drop a charged clock on them. Then turn back around and charge gale(this part takes a good amount of practice, so don't beat yourself up about it) and gale through the middle of that giant mob you just pulled. As soon as you can tap fireball, if done right you'll have shot a fireball directly behind you. So you're going to run to this circle, turn around and drop a clock where I am standing in this picture, charge gale, turn around and release. If done correctly you will go through the hall without hitting the wall.

Next you're going to hit Harley with a fireball, then run up to the mage standing where the hallway splits left and right and drop a charged clock right on top of his head. Drop your clock right here.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/mbgarrett/Mobile%20Uploads/Screenshot_2014-06-22-00-32-10.png (http://s23.photobucket.com/user/mbgarrett/media/Mobile%20Uploads/Screenshot_2014-06-22-00-32-10.png.html)

As a lead mage I always have the other party members go right since I'm so far ahead, I can usually have the left room cleared before anyone can really get there, and there is a trick to this which I'll explain. So as soon as you drop your clock where the hallway splits, charge a fireball into the mob directly left of the mage. Hit as many as you can with auto attack and start running into the room. After you get into the charge gale and shoot all the way into very back by the chest. Now your gonna stand there spamming auto attack for a few seconds. Maybe 3 seconds or so but patience is key here. Let all of the mobs catch up to you and as soon as your pet catches up to you, charge and release fireball, hit pet arcane and charge and drop a clock on them. Continue to spam auto attack and fireball until either all of the mobs are dead or Francis has spawned. Here is the spot you will stand and wait.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/mbgarrett/Mobile%20Uploads/Screenshot_2014-06-22-00-32-26.png (http://s23.photobucket.com/user/mbgarrett/media/Mobile%20Uploads/Screenshot_2014-06-22-00-32-26.png.html)

As soon as Francis spawns start pulling to your party members in the next room. Don't go all the way into the room, but instead have your party pull stone into this part of the hall.

Well there you have it folks, and in depth guide of how I, as a mage run km3. Doing it this way yields a consistent(depending on your gear and others) 1 minute to 1 minute 45 second runs. If people want I can make a separate guide on cleaning up the mobs. So I hope you new mages out there find this useful and who knows maybe everyone one including myself may learn something new.

Skill + teamwork > maxed out gear

Grab an expedition rifle and colton for cheap, then make all your gold back on a 30min elix+lep run.

As always gear definitely helps. But I use upgraded myth gear, lep, some cheap pink ring and totem of potency lvl41 for hp. With this setup I think my dmg is only 480 something maybe less. Its all about timing and placement of clocks really. And of course everyone who is cleaning up. The time you see in the picture was with other mages and I was the only one in myth gear. So keep yer chin up :)

Kudos bud, it's amazing how many people don't know how to run maps like this. It sure is nice running in a team with a plan and every one in the right place, especially when farming locks is such a bore so speed is very important.

Nice guide!
It's pretty much the exact same as I, and hopefully many others run it.
A KM3 PT will never work without good mages!

^^This.

I use to run all pinks with Lepre.
I now run mythic helm/top, lepre and pink ring (soon to be mythic)
and a Magmatic staff of potency. Yes, I run a lot better now, but I now run without shield.
I use to run without hassles, as long as the good PT and teamwork was there.
