I thought after you cap you can't gain kills anymore because you can't gain experience. But I just saw lovenus in balefort and he has been 76 for a while now but has gained 40k kills since I saw him last week. I mean, I know that you used to be able to gain kills with experience gain turned off but wasn't that gotten rid of?

I wish this were true, but there is now an xp anywhere elixir that has boosted a couple of newer players a lot.
Although I will admit to using this during the egg event.

Everyone uses fathom to boost kills. Technically not boosting if they just taking advantage of the elixirs lol.
