Actually, 250 plat for a pet like slag is a bargain. you would not hit enough portal runs for 250 plat to hit gold tier.

you might spend the 500K+ in energy to almost (maybe halfway to silver?) make gold, but again, you would spend more than that to break gold tier.

I spent 450k gold to get dovabear by buying energy kits...maybe my bosses were lucky.
