Ok, noob question, but what does armor do? Does it increase other stats?

Thanks

Armor mitigates damage. So the higher your armor, the less each attack will take from your health.

Is that it?

Yes that's it, though that alone is a pretty big deal ;)

Wow, I'm nearing 50 and didn't know this. I was wondering what it did and found this thread in a search. I was thinking it just increased chance to dodge or something. Taking less damage though is pretty awesome.

The better looking ones also attract all the ladies while walking around towne.

Just don't buy any starry ones for more than you can handle.

Think of it like this to make it simple.

1 armor = 1 damage

Its not that simple because hit, crit, and dodge come into play and everything, but that's what it means basically alone.

Mystical have you been able to officially test that?

Talked to cinco about it in the chatbox, we discussed armor, it was kinda a 50/50 thing on where it stands. I haven't really tested armor in a while, because it would be pretty hard to, like I said, when hit and crit comes underplay.

Oh I get that, but I didn't know if you tried anything like the dude who does the Archer set comparisons where he literally tracks everything. I'd definitely like to see it tested out, especially seeing the vast differences between armor stats for my class (Archer) depending on whether or not you use a talon.

Depending whether you're referring to pvp or not, remember talon takes away a lot from your damage base. Also, it takes 42 skill damage away (switching from blaster to talon, sunblessed to talon deducts 52 skill damage)

Oh I understand the shortcomings of it. It comes down to the fact I'd rather sacrifice a few damage points in lieu of being a nuisance with aggro and a pain for the mages, thus the interest in the defensive side of things for me personally.

I only use talon at OL, if I can't afford a tank pot. The armor works well, along with the added crit and dodge, but I still can't go with the damage deduction. Too much for me.

Still waiting on that set bonus for sentinel as well...hoping that covers some of it.

I have tested this and 1 armor does negate 1 point attack damage. There is a maximum effectiveness though, so when an attack is lower then your armor, you will take about 5-7 damage anyway. The way this was tested, and you can do this yourself is unequip your armor/shield/helm and go into a early forest haven game. They will do a an average damage to you. Then equip armor, and you will see the average damage will go down by what you equipped till a certain point. At that point, you matched their attack, and no matter how much more armor you put on, their attack will never drop below like 5.

That's, of course, what the armor stat does. Specific armors can provide additional benefits, such as additional health or mana regen, hit %, crit %, etc.
