skill range question

The range of my archer's skills are described in-game three different ways: Range, area, and area effect. Range (8m range) is pretty straightforward - that skill will be usable on anything within 8m of me. What is the range of an area or area effect skill? If it says 8m area does that mean it's range is 4m? Also, is area and area of effect the same thing?

Usually if you see Xm area on a skill, it means that distance in all directions, so like a circle of radius X. Afaik know area and area of effect (term only used on two skills, both avian) are synonymous.

When I first started on archer, it wasn't obvious what were area/single target skills, so I tried them out. Same w/ bear. Same w/ mage. So try them out. After that, you'll want to know range skills are effective, just to get an idea of what 8m is, what 12m is. Of course, I still misjudge distances. LOL.
