I dont know if the others feel the same but it seems to me that the taxes in the auction hall are spoiling the market.

1. For higher priced items, people will never buy them even if the price is low because their mindset is 'oh it cost so much in the auction hall now, it means that the seller is valuing it at a lower price since they paid the tax. So i will just ask around for a cheaper price.' And in the end, the auctioneers are the ones who are at a disadvantage.

2. it is deterring many collectibles to be sold in the market. this is because often, collectibles does not sell as easily as other items because there is a very big ambiguity in the price. Hence, sellers does not want to risk putting the item up when it incurs cost and the chances of it being sold is very slim.

3. there is no reason for a tax. maybe my brain isnt big enough but i guess i can never comprehend why there is a tax involved in putting items up on the auction hall. Normal people has only 1 auction slot, which is already a form of restriction, and they still need to pay to use it. i dont get it, why?

So game dev, old sports, i am very very interested in the rationale of taxing the auction hall, it does nobody any good and even if you want to tax, i guess you should allow the first 8 hours to be free and charge only if people wants to extend the duration.

1. Gold sink
2. Prevents trolls from overloading auction with thousands of 100m priced items

Btw. Players can buy auction slots using story tokens.

The fees help keep the prices honest as the fee discourages unrealistic listings. If you don't want to pay the fee then learn to merch outside of the CS.

Its a gold sink my friend!
Some of MMORPGs have item values that reaches billions or trillions of there in-game-currency! Imagine the new mythic weapons being sold in billion of golds right now? A new player can only dream of it.
And to prevent this, gold sinks are intruduced. And one of them is the auction tax you are talking here. It's to control the economy and keep the prices in reacheable-price.

I understand you Jay Gatsby. It is frustrating and it seems like it's purpose is to hold back auctions, but it isnt.
The tax is a very usable tool for the developers to keep track of the economy. I think games should be more controlled by the administrators so trolling and Chinese farmers can not get advantage. As well as high prices and low (http://www.true-consulting.se/ett-bra-casino/).

Hey guys.

A little story:

There are no auction taxes. Imagine you are listing in AH a blood gem for 5000 gold. 30 seconds later somebody lists it for 4900 gold, then you try to keep with him till blood gems price are 1000 gold.

It would be a huge chaos my friends! Also I never bought slots with platinum but instead of 1 slot I have got 26 slots. I am not normal? :(

This somes up everything!

Players will keep re-listing the item for sale (competition), until the overall value of that item becomes lowest.
Trolling sales (have you seen the pet deary for sale 8m?). It would be worst if there are no taxes.
This is the main gold-sink in the game, removing this will make the gold accumulated in-game uncontrollable. (They even introduced Sir spendsalot for more gold sink)
