I've seen screenshots of some people's characters who have 250 equipment slots. I only have 50. How do you get more? I'm sure it costs platinum but I can't see where to buy it.
Yes, you can add more slots to a character. Also, characters for long-time players got grandfathered in when they revised the default from 250 down to 50 many, many moons ago. As such, I still have two characters with 250 inventory slots.

Platinum->Game Features (on the bottom of the list)-> Inventory Slots
You buy 50 slots at a time for a cost of 5 Platinum. You purchase up to 4 times, giving you a grand total of 20 Platinum for 250 slots.
