I've gotten my first peace of mythic armor!!!! I'd REALLY like to use it but is it possible for me to upgrade my armor NOW by itself and then upgrade the helm later when I get ?

Nope, don't forget once you have the helm you also need to pay 100k for an upgrade component:)
