So is the 1.2 update universal binary or is it after we get 1.2 that the updates when then on will be universal binary ??

1.2 is universal. The iphone version will have the update, and the ipad version will be deprecated.

means there will be file for itouch, iphone, & ipad users can use. essentially it means everyone gets updates at the same time instead of some before others.

It means there's just one app in the app store, that both iphone/touch and ipad users all use. It will show up as an update to the iphone version, and there will no longer be a separate ipad version. All the functionality of the ipad version is still there, just it's all in the same app.
