Of you are going to be a pure mage (as in wearing cloth and carrying a wan or staff), don't bother with Str or Dex. Just go pure Int.

I would try wand shield pally once you get to level 20-30. At 30 go back to pure int.
If you don't know, a pally is a mage that can equip str items. But you are going to have to find some boosters and other stuff to go wand shield

I'm 100% int mage and I definitely recommend it due to the high skill damage.

Well at first I didn't know what was up with the str and dex but now I've been spending all my points on int. I like a lot of power and cool spells soo :)
