Sentinel Talon/Shield and Shotgun

Whats the Sentinel Talon/shield set good for?
And whats the shotgun set good for?

The talon/wing set gives superior armor but lacks the damage and range of the shotgun. Use a shotgun first in your parties - if you feel like you're dying too much, use the talon/wing set.
