View Full Version : Mana shield and the Keeper...

Hello!

First of all, please forgive that my English is bad. :'(

OK. When I was farming the Keeper for totems, the teammates always told the elves not to use their mana shield for preventing the Keeper putting on his too.

Question: Is there any real relationship between players' mana shield and the keeper's? Is it true that if nobody in the team use mana shield, then the Keeper won't neither?

Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

No those people were wrong. The keeper's shield goes up no matter what you do.

The first time the keeper shield goes up it does so no matter what, yes, but after that the time between him putting his shield up varies and there have been numerous occasions when it has come back up quicker than expected and on those occasions it sure has looked like it stole it from a mage, but I can't say for sure. I had pretty much done my share of keepers without noticing this phenomenon and after I heard about this I haven't really bothered to look into it.

But one thing is for sure is that his first shield up is not affected by present mages and their shields. And you should get him before his first shield anyway, right? :)

@Royce: Thanks a lot! That really relieve me! :D

@Hullukko: Thanks for sharing too! BTW, since most of the time there wasn't any bird in my team or we were not strong enough or what, there was only once that I knocked the Keeper out before he put on his shield. :(

It's just on timer of some sort. This theory about stealing mana shields is garbage, I guarantee ;)
I've never seen any difference in his shield's behavior from soloing with my bear to playing in a group with three or four mages using mana shields. It just doesn't matter.

It goes up no matter what you do, it is on a timer like Royce said. I don't know where this idea came from. I have played in groups with no mages at all and that shield always goes up on a semi-regular basis, although I have never timed it to see how long it took for the first one to go up, or any after that.

It's a timer. Best to kill fast before the shields go up (a group of level 5 45+ can do it); for level 50s, 4 will do. Make sure nobody charges ahead of the group, thereby prematurely starting the timer and basically taking away that window.

If the shield goes up, use armor buffs (evade, iron blood, blessings of vitality) and damage debuffs (blinding shot, hell scream, weakness). Then use mainly auto. SPAM all combos as soon as the shield goes down again as it will go up again after only a short period.

There's nothing you can do to prevent this except killing the keeper fast.

Maybe not completely related, but I was wondering if there are other bosses u shouldn't use your shield on?

Mana shield does not affect the bosses directly. It's okay to use the shield I think against any boss. However, be careful about using mana shield; you don't want to find yourself in a situation where you've run out of mana.

With the insane 45 m/s regen rate, that's hardly an issue anymore ;)

I had the same question based on some in game chat. I'm glad to find some support for my belief that it doesn't change. I can also provide a time estimate for you. The shield timer goes off every 40 seconds or so. Every time his shields drop, I pop my blessings and fire off my combos. Then when the cooldown is complete on my blessing (30 seconds afaik) I count to ten and then his shield drops again right about when I get to ten. Its not precise but it's very repeatable.

This leads to my next question - can a bear stun him and delay the shield? Or a bird pop his shield like Overlord's?

I always guessed it was about 45 seconds or so between cycles, and about 15-20ish while it is on, but glad to see someone actually figure it out better than my guess :D

Archer's blast shot does NOT remove his shield, unfortunately (it does on most other shielded bosses)....or he would be dead in about 14 seconds. And I don't think a bear can stun-delay his shield, but never thought about it. It really is on a timer, I believe, completely independent of party make up, party skill usage, anything.

I use Mana Shield as often as possible, just make sure you have enough mana potions to use if you find yourself without mana and need to heal/revive ^_^
