Just for fun, I decided to extrapolate the current experience point (XP) curves (1-55) to see how painful the next update to level 61 might turn out.

I ended up fitting the current curve to both a 4th order polynomial and to an exponential. In general, the 4th order fit tends to underestimates the XP needed and the exponential overestimates, so they serve as a lower and upper bound.

I plotted both curves out in the figure below along with the current (new) XP Curve. You can see the large spike currently at level 55 to reach level 56 in blue.

Assuming that PL does not change the curve, you can see that to get to non-elite level 81, it will take somewhere between 50,00 to 90,00 XP points!
Here is a table of the values. Assuming a 10x elite level factor, itwill take somewhere between 123,000 to 133,000 experience points to reach elite level 61! That’s roughly 50% more XP needed then the current elite level 56.

Remember, these are just estimates based on the current XP curve, not any official numbers!

Woot first!

So in other words if the devs lowered the xp requirement each lvl cap raise for lower lvls to make it easier to max your lvl, all we really need to do is wait for the next lvl cap raise and *bang* easier to get to lvl 56, but you still won't be the top lvl which means more waiting.

Btw such big words I almost had to get my dictionary out. Lol

Physio graphed current XP level 1 to 55, and said it fit an exponential here: http://www.spacetimestudios.com/showthread.php?18276-Advancement-Curve-Changes&p=191617&viewfull=1#post191617
Maybe he was just generalizing the shape though.

Also your data seems strange. 82k XP is needed for 56, not 55 right? And the 56 XP should not be included since they just took what would be the normal XP for that level and multiplied it by 10, so after the cap goes up again XP for 56 will be ten times lower.

Really interesting and nicely graphed! Seems the grind to 60 won't be that bad compared to what it was like to reach 56.

Royce, I don't think he included the 56 XP in his calculations - he's just showing it separately for comparison. His table seems to list the XP needed for the next level on each row, so for row 55 it's the XP needed for 56 etc.

I used a quadratic formula, and it got VERY close to actual. Check it out.

Raw Data:

Utilizing the existing data (51through 56 (56 was divided by ten to get the future value))

The quadratic regression is y = a x^2 + b x +c
where:
a = 28.79761905
b = -2445.654762
and c = 55025.85714

The error is: 32.33333461615257

Using this, I created a formula in excel and got the following results:

Extending these calculations I came up with these values:

Good luck getting to 99 :p

Try removing the first 20 levels and see what that fits to.

We iterated heavily on the first 20 levels at before launch, so that data is not changing. Levels 21 through 50 are changing to require about 40% more total XP (we felt it was too fast). Levels 51 through 55 continue along the new curve.

All the XP figures are "to next level," not "to this level".

If you are talking to me, then yes. I ran two calculations, first I did exclude only the first 20 levels and it gave me an incredibly large value for the error. Then I retried excluding all levels under 51, and it gave me what I posted which seems to be very close to actual.

Still why even include that bloated value in the table. If you are going to use it, divide it by 10 ;)

I did remove the first 20 levels when trying the fits. Looking at the quadratic fit by noneo, that does seem to fit better. I will update the chart later to include a quadratic fit. I had in mind that it was going to be an exponential fit from the earlier thread that Royce pointed out in his post above.

The numbers are to reach the next level, so you currently need 82840 at level 55 to reach level 56. I wanted to visually graph the spike in the amount of XP needed for level 56 and that is why I included in the table. I did not use the inflated value for fitting the data.
