I think what he meant was, he didn't know that he couldn't log on and then he checked announcements and realized servers would be down for 2-3 hours. At this point, he began crying. I don't think he was being smug to you! :)

Well no1 would know to check and would just think its a bug because the devs have not been active for a week. Went inactive when they stuck craftmania up
