Samhayne I upped the timeout from 15 min to 2 hours... it was annoying to have the page timeout

So don't be surprised if it says something like:
There are currently 1124 users online. 145 members and 979 guests

Ugh I don't like that. DD has people listed hours after they logged off, so you think they're online but they've been gone for quite some time. I've always preferred STS's more accurate list.

This is not in the game, it is for the forums.

Yeah, I know... Still prefer seeing people online only when they really are online.

Also prefer the old way, for what it's worth.

I thought it was just people logging on during server downtime.

Uhh, timeout? I have never timed out before. I am basically logged in 24/7 o.O

I believe it's part of the campaign to elicit more forum activity and registration from lurkers :)

Yes, but if you're not active for a while, it doesn't show you as being online (as I understand it). But now it will look like people are on round the clock, even if they're not really there.

Round the clock is 24 hours Les... the buffer was set to 2.

I've told you billions of times not to exagerate like that...

What I meant was, if someone logs in every few hours just to check what's new, it will look like they're there almost all day, rather than just the times they're actually on.

I just don't see the use in this, other than giving it the appearance of being busier than it actually is (which I guess might be what you want). People will try to chat with people who they think are online, not realizing that they've been gone for an hour.

Like I said, DD forums had this from the beginning and I've never liked it -- I always wished they'd shorten it to the time you guys had it set to. And here it's even a bigger wall of text than over there.

The change in the time-out doesn't make a difference to me since I've partitioned a part of my soul in these forums, just like how Voldemort hid his souls in Horcruxes.
