I'm fairly new to being a mage, sorry if this question is bad :D
Does firestorm have a limit amount of targets it can hit at once? Whenever I use it, monsters which are right next to me don't get hit, when those which are far away do get hit.

it does seem to. also, i hate this too about it, when moving it never hits everyone i want it to. standing still is the only way to safely hit a max number of people -.-

Standing still... gotcha, gonna try that now
Just, to make sure, there is a max amount of targets you can hit right?

About the max targets... I don't think there really is a maximum. I'm fairly new too, so I could be mistaken but I see an awful lot of 'combo''s flying around when ice-barbecue a mob. At first I took some distance before releasing firestorm, but that didn't seem to make much difference. Standing still seems like the way to go.

Some of the enemies might be dodging..

I ran out a test, seems like fire storm only affects enemies rougly a bodylength away from your toon. It's probably a bug.

Your hit rate requires attention.

Maximum targets might be possible. Take for example when I round up about 10-15 mobs, when I beckon, it only tends to work on 6-8 mobs max.
The others just don't get affected. No dodge, no miss, no "failed" beckon, just nothing.
Same with my stomp too, I beckon the mobs, they're in the "combo-able" state, and when I do stomp some of them don't even take damage.
Wish there was some sort of factual information on why this happens..

With Firestorm a couple of things come into play:
1. You have your hit rate, which would definitely affect the amount of AI you hit.
2. If you're with a group you might run into a bear stomping or a bird attacking, remember you're not the only one there.
3. Firestorm, like every other spell, has its own attacking range.
4. And I think all spells have a certain max amount of enemies to attack.

Pretty sure the debuffs manage to hit them all... And aoe staffs I think.

I can run a few tests to confirm, but I believe that Firestorm does not have an attack limit. There have been times where I was farming Balefort Castle, and mobs were gathering behind me, probably like 15 or so, and I pushed back almost all of them. The others had some sort of text shown above them (i.e. dodge, miss, damage, etc.).
I think the biggest aspect here is how far away the target is when you BEGIN casting your spell. If you cast lightning at one point when the mob is outside of the spells range, then run closer to a mob putting it in range of the Lighning attack, it will NOT hit the mob. You need to have the mob within the range when you cast the spell.
I think this is why Ellyidol is seeing that certain mobs he is rounding up are not affected by his spells. Simply because when he casts a spell, he is not within range of the mobs, even if he runs closer and makes them in range by the time the spell initiates.

Idea noneo: do BS, make one huge roundup train, and tell me if you don't think firestorm has a limit.

I actually just did some trials. I only tested out firestorm since I am in class right now. I did multiple different dungeouns, and tested this out with 1 mob following me up to ten mobs following me. from 1 to 5, every mob around me "texted" (hit, miss, dodge, etc). however one I hit six and up ONLY FIVE mobs were affected. it seems spells do in fact have an effect limit... please disregaurd my previois post untill I run more tests.
To sum it up, firestorm only effect five mobs per cast.

Did the same trials with lightning. Same outcome. Only 5 mobs were effected.
Also, an interesting side note. When I had a group of 5 mobs, and two treasure chests were in range of my attack, the chests ALWAYS took 1 of the 5 lightning bolts. So if you are in a room with treasure chests and a group of mobs, stay as far away from the chests as possible, as each chest will steal one of your five precious lightning bolts. (if you are in a room with 5 chests and 5 mobs, the chests will steal ALL FIVE of your bolts, in turn causing you to not hit any mobs with your cast)
EDIT: tested it on Ice Storm, same thing, only 5 mobs were frozen

Wow... that's, uh, interesting. I was fully expecting the outcome to be that it was just the hit% affect it (at low levels hit% is low -- at just 66%, you'd miss a full 2/3rd anyway).
Five is not very many. That would help explain why having several mages to race through the XP grinds makes things just that much faster, too.
It's curious, too, because I know many of the bear skills affect more than 5 (can you see more than that being sucked over to the bear, for instance).

I wonder if blast shot also has a limit, specifically the combo... Such a pity, prob for lagg more than anything else.
