I find it hard to tank when I will have worse stats then a dps bear, can barly attack thanks to hit%, and spend even more on pots because my regain sucks! All just to be able to take the dmg from your party, who for the most part just boss you around and blame you for all of the mistakes. I was originally pure str, but changed since you literally cant pvp with pure str past lv 50,(do to hit%). Then I thought, well with the sewer dungeons maby being a tank agin will be the right choice, and altho you have situations where pulling the enemies together (mobbing/pulling) helps the game move along and is easier with a tank, I still find that the overall result isn't worth the small perks. Sorry if it seems like im raging, and i know that the vast majority of bears already are dps bears, but i just wanted to see if you guys faced the same problems

Well you have to look at a tank as a party type char. All they really do is help the party, so if ya like helping others the tank is a good pick. I love playing my tank, full str, try for the highest dodge h/s and armor. If ya wanna PVP then a DPS bear is better. Its all how you play really. Tanks can be one of the most useful classes in party games.

yeah i understand that, but just taking the dmg from the part seems to be a hefty price compared to the cons

Ya you are right, like its impossible to do any quests later on with no other party members. A tank needs to have other party members to be useful. They do have more cons than pros IMO, but they can still be fun and your other party members will be happy for your tanking.

A dual spec bear should give you the best of both worlds.

Tanking wouldn't be that much of a problem, or even better than a pure str even. The loss you get from putting points into Dex instead of Str is puny vs the gains you get from doing it.

Damage would be better since you have more hit, crit, and base damage than pure strength. For even more damage, you can even switch over to a bow bear.

And for anyone that thinks bears in tanking gear can't do serious mob damage should watch Ellyidol here run a board or two in the Sewers. If I stop to respond to a PM for just a second or two, I have trouble even finding a mob to kill from the swath of destruction left in Elly's wake. :)

Thanks DT!, but maybe because I damage pot. Everytime :P

But not to sound full of myself, but the damage I do without it isn't that bad either, granting how easily I can tank the mobs in the first place.

I am not a big fan of the tank bear (prefer my bear as pure DEX... the mix of skills and ranged attacks is just too much fun) but I would say that if you tank you must rely on skills to do real damage. Work on your combos because there are indeed some serious tanks out there that leave a path of destruction behind them and make everyone else in the party feel like they are mopping the floor. lol

Gahh, I know what you mean!

I'm almost ALWAYS a bow bear in PvE, very rarely do I actually use tank gear.

I tried going Dex Crown + Bellow pieces + Damage ring, the damage and crit was superb! But the bow bear still beat it because of the added range.

I find tanking a boss even easier as a bow bear, since we "tank-kite" them.

Is it worth it to tank?

Absolutely! My suggestion though is to go dual-spec STR/DEX. In PvE, you'll have the benefits of rounding up the mobs with your tanking skills and combos and still unleash a good deal of damage with your range. It'll require you to be on your toes as you'll need to spam the occasional health pot but the added range gives you much more versatility than if you were simply dealing melee attacks.

Seasoned players will definitely appreciate your efforts. I welcome good tanks in my games. While you'll never please everyone, in game and in life, try to ignore the haters. I know it's easier said than done, but, while a good tank is rare, in the end we all benefit.

Dual spec str/dex is the way to go for PvE. With the right mix of gear to achieve hit/crit/dmg (in order for Taunt and Beckon to work really well and deal some damage too) and balanced w dodge and a some regen, you get the best of both worlds for a bear, AND you can switch to Dex gear if needed :D

I enjoy being able to switch back and forth. I prefer the bow bear, but on certain bosses I find it necessary, depending on the group I'm in, to switch to strength set. Not very often do I switch to tank, but its nice to have the ability to. Also if there are two bears in the group, it makes it a faster run than with two tanks. I call my self the support bear, when there is a tank already. LOL

^What DT said.

And this is coming from a Lv56 bird in full RR/SK damage loadout on attackx2 elixir as well.

After all, any skilled player who plays any race/class can wipe the floor. It's pure skills, and can only mastered by playing smart and understanding the mechnics of the game and utilize their abilities. I see plenty of bear/bird/elf that does this daily day-in-day-out to perfect their game and share their findings. That's why it is fun for me to play this game.

If you think about it it is probably really hard for sts to balance out the bear, with the tank class, there is such a fine line between being extremely overpowered, vs being underpowered. If bears had even slightly better dmg, specs, skills ect. then all stats would change for pvp and pve. So you really have to give it to Spacetime for the time they must have spent just balancing out characters
