I've gotten an email from blizzard before like this, and even emailed them to tell them I think it might be a phishing email. But I never heard anything back (unless spam caught it). The weird thing is that every link actually seems to be legit and point back to Blizzard and Battle.net. But... Unless I did it in my sleep, I never created a Blizzard or Battle.net account! So what is going on? Should I just ignore it since I don't recall having an account in the first place?
Dear customer,
Due to suspicious activity,*your Battle.net account*has been locked. You tried to*login your account too many times (403). We are concerned about whether your account has been stolen. In order to guarantee the legitimacy of your account, we need you*follow these steps:
Step 1: Secure Your Computer
In the event that your computer has been infected with malicious software such as a keylogger or trojan, simply changing your password may not deter future attacks without first ensuring that your computer is free from these programs. Please visit our Account Security website to learn how to secure your computer from unauthorized access.
Step 2: Secure Your E-mail Account
After you have secured your computer,*check your e-mail filters and rules and look for any e-mail forwarding rules that you did not create. For more information on securing your e-mail account, visit*our Support page.
Step 3:*Restore access to*Your account
We now provide a secure*link for you to verify*whether you have taken the appropriate steps to secure the account, your computer, and your email address. Please follow this site to restore the access to your account: http://us.battle.net/support.html
If you still have questions or concerns after following the steps above, feel free to contact Customer Support at http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&articleId=20606.
Sincerely,
The Battle.net Account Team

Same.
I used to play WoW before, abandoned it after I was unable to play for a long time.
I have no idea how my account got hacked into or something, if it really was hacked into, but they sent me the same too.
Since I don't bother playing, nor do I pay for the account anymore, I just replied and told them to feel free to lock that account.
What are you planning on doing?

Well, I don't have an account at all, so my first instinct is that it's phishing email. But if you click on the links, they take you to us.blizzard.com. And that seems to be the real blizzard page. So if it is a phishing email, how do they even get your info? Or are they now so good that they can mask even the URL at the top? I'm just so confused. I don't think I'll do anything, since I already emailed blizzard in the past about this. But the whole thing is just eating at my brain. Usually phishing emails are obvious once you look at the URLs.

Does it go to one site, then immediately redirect to the blizzard site? WoW players or any severely addicted player with hacking potential could do anything.
The easiest prediction would be that someone is using your email or attempting to. Or that they're making a mitake. Maybe best to keep contacting them.

Your email client may have 'fixed' the links as a security measure.

Oh really? They do stuff like that now?

I had clicked on a phishing link to my bank because I was going to fill in a bunch of false info but it took me to my actual bank site. I am not sure if the email client fixed the link or if perhaps the bank reported the domain and got it to redirect.

Interesting. That would explain it, I guess. Thanks Fluff! Was having a hard time wrapping my head around this one.

Mmm true, I never clicked on the links though ever since.
I don't even bother opening unknown emails, but when I saw Blizzard etc, I knew it was legit.
I hope it doesn't send me the same thing again though, since I actually told them to close my account. :)

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT OPEN ANY LINKS! Those are spam E-mails designed to phish for your account information, and will likely trojan/virus your computer to steal from you. If you opened it, start a FULL computer internal and external scan asap

But weren't they the legit sites?

I'm using my iPhone, anyway, so I don't think there's any worry of viruses.
And the links were taking me to the official sites. That was the puzzling thing about it. Fluff's is the only explanation so far that makes sense. Bc why send out phishing emails that have legit links? They gain nothing from it.

Actually they do gain from it if your computer has spyware (keyloggers) by making you log into your account.
Anyhow I would contact blizzard support and explain that you do not have an account.. Someone may have made one using your email address somehow which could become a problem if you ever need to do a legit sign up to battle.net.

True.
Is it possible that it leads you to an initial fake site and puts in the virus that quick, then directs you straight away to the legit site?
I was thinking that they made it look exactly like a legit site, but in those cases the web address is usually off, this time it isn't..

When my WoW account became inactive for about a year, I began receiving e-mails about suspicious activity, and my account password being changed. Because I had no intention of ever going back to playing, I just reported the e-mails as junk and went on my way. Anyway, before I had submitted it as junk, I had followed the link as you did, but I was immediately directed to the blizzard website. There wasn't a "middle" website that I stopped at before being redirected.
