Farming pinks: high level = low drop rate?

So I was running some low lvl bosses with my 51 enchantress seeing if I could get anything of value, when a friend of mine pms me. He said my 51 is much less likely to get anything of value in an area meant for lower levels. I've always thought that drop rates are probably linked to the mobs themselves and not the character's level. His comment is probably an urban myth, but what do yout think: True or false?

Ya I'd say it's completely random. It would be very hard, if not impossible, to prove this point tho.
