We certainly apologize for the inconvenience, and we more than anyone want the service to be available. When we launched Pocket Legends, we were only 6 developers. We chose Amazon EC2 and have been happy with them over the past year. Now that we're a tad larger, it will be an extremely high priority for us to make sure we can handle future cloud outages.

Unfortunately, if you look at Amazon's status page (http://status.aws.amazon.com), the North Virginia data center we use is unavailable. We're now looking into setting up servers on the both the east and west coast of the US in the event this happens again, but even if the west coast Pocket Legends servers were ready, we still cannot access our game database (which is where all the account and player data is stored).

YAY! So.... now I got 1.7.1.1, after Apple took their sweet jolly time, and my "Join" button might work, but I have no friends on to join with...

On a side note: I think Android users should get the updates despite Apple's delay in approving updates.

From reading the reports from the website provided and my personal understanding of EBS volumes and API errors, i have a rough estimation that the server will be recovered in 5 hours away from the time of my post now. My prediction may not be accurate but just a rough estimation. So try away maybe like 4 hours - 6 hours later.

That's true - I haven't heard an actual explanation but one of the articles claimed that there was a networking glitch which caused new backups on available storage capacity until it's maxed out and pushed all others out (server crash occured).

Additionally, one of our internal control planes for EBS has become inundated such that it's difficult to create new EBS volumes and EBS backed instances. We are working as quickly as possible to add capacity to that one Availability Zone to speed up the re-mirroring, and working to restore the control plane issue. We're starting to see progress on these efforts, but are not there yet. We will continue to provide updates when we have them.

Reminds me of a tech call at work. A buddies BIOS needed to be reset. We call tech support and try to explain the issue (which they clearly didn't understand). The tech told us to disconnect the machine from the network and reboot. The phone updates more or less transitioned to VOIP (for lack of better description) so when we pulled the Ethernet cable the call was disconnected...

I can tell you now as I have told everyone on the Pocket Legends' Facebook page.

We may be upset with the down time because we expected to be able to play whenever we felt like it, we put money into the game when we didn't have to and are obviously flustered about the situation. But as Spacetime Studios has pointed out, this was not their fault and it was completely out of their hands. They do not own the company "Amazon" nor do they run their servers, they are simply using Amazon to help host their Pocket Legends servers.

That being said, when people threaten to leave and demand things "or else" when Pocket Legends clearly has no control of the situation, think about how upset they must be with the fact they are losing players, money and work they could be doing to better the game all because some other company had something go wrong.

I'd like to include that we do not know the reasons behind why Amazon had this issue happen, so we can't blame them as it could be the same situation going on with Pocket Legends where it just ends up going down the chain of companies involved with eachother.

In the end, I would like to see everyone benefit from the down time and take the time to enjoy their day away from the game, as it will be back up and no one will lose anything out of this.

I would like to thank the players who have been supportive towards Spacetime Studios and I would like to thank Spacetime Studios for being so nice about the situation and keeping us all updated.
