We're planning on creating a new forum for Pocket Legends titled "Player Guides". Here we would collect the many and varied awesome guides that players have written about the game.

The real challenge is then creating a master post with links to each guide, when it was posted (how current it is) and a brief description.

If anyone is interested in assisting is such an endeavor, please reply here with your thoughts or send me a private message.

Thanks!

Redbridge has a thread (http://www.spacetimestudios.com/showthread.php?20352-Guides-Indexes-Helpsheets-amp-all-other-wonderful-stuff-in-one-place...) that encompasses most player guides, minus creation date (up-to-date/out-of-date) and a brief description. It's also located only in the general discussion section (so newcomers may completely miss it) so it would be great if an entire new forum was dedicated to it, in big bold letters. How would the format of this forum look?

How would the format of this forum look?

Like any other forum in the Pocket Legends section. Probably put it under the Crafting forum and above the Trader's Market.

Stickies would be indexes to guides and inside the forum would be actual posts of guides. I'd go through and move all the guide posts (they keep their URLs when moved, so no worries about breaking links) to this new forum. That way, the guide posts don't get lost in all the chatter of General Discussion, for example.

Class guides would probably stay in the class section, or leave a permanent redirect in the class section so someone looking say, for a Ursan guide could easily find it in the Ursan Class forum.

sounds interesting, just hope good guides dont get lost in the shuffle. seen it happen.

maybe for certain guides, move it to this section, but keep a redirect if good reason given.

Awesome. The Gen discussion forum can be an unholy mess on certain days. As there are lots of guides and different types of guides as well, how would the forum itself be organized? Subforums?

This is a good idea, will make things alot cleaner on the forums. Theres alot of threads on all kinds of guides on these forums, hardest part is finding them, especially for newer players. Like Physiologic said, Redbridge has a good 'master' type guide, with lots of links.

GUIDES SUB-FORUM is a good idea

Thing is Samhayne you need SEVERAL MASTER POSTS because guides can be different levels of complexity:

eg Beginners: Starting out: Video guides etc: friendly and chatty. What is UI, What the controls are... etc

eg Experienced Players Guides Ppl add their top tip of the day into a thread eg I know a great place to farm pinks etc or avoid a scam when trading or a little tactic in combat etc

eg MASTERCLASS GUIDES: Using spreasheets to calculate min/max builds etc number crunching formulaes per classes. etc.

eg PVP PRO's Guide etc

eg GET RICH QUICK! Guide trading, farming..

I think several categories would be very useful for guides?

I'm not sure if I'm getting this right, so there would be a new section called "Player Guides".

In that section, stickies to each respective class with link to the guides inside them would be there.

Any non-class specific guide would be moved into this section. How about any existing, if any, PvP guides? Will they stay in PvP or be moved too?

Also, will players be able to post directly in the Guides section? Or will the section contain guides only?

Well I'm guessing you could keep the Classes/PvP/Trading Guides in those forums maybe and make this new forum especially beginner friendly?

But I like the idea of different levels of general guides for experienced/advanced players: Eg showing how to calculate stats etc in more details or how to max a dungeon run more efficient etc... ?

EG maybe as level 20 player I've got used to the game, but feel unsure how to improve at the game? How do I improve dungeon runs, combat, trading at this level? What's the next challenge for me? etc...
Should I start thinking about playing an alt to develop a twink for pvp at this level or stash item-drops for the alt and so on...

Well to address your issue regarding a "master post", assuming you don't want to mess with the coding of this forums to much. How about make a master sticky topic that does two things.

1) Gives a link to a web page in the pocket legends general website that displays all the guides and a link to each of them, along with a brief description the title, last time it was updated, author w/e else you want. All this can be done via a database usage for example (or what ever way you see fit)

2) Assuming this goes via route info is entered into a database to be used for part 1) have a link to a website that lets players enter the link of the guide (the guide must be on the forums) and a description. From their right a script that gets the author of the post, when it was made, last time it was updated, title and so on into the database.

Granted after thinking about it, i'm sure a database isn't needed and can get the info of the entered link and add it to the master list webpage directly, but I understand it more with using a database as the idea so im leaving that in the suggestion.

STS forums is really organized I LOVE IT!! It's cool that we got a B* section, a PL section and a STS section!!

We just need stuff like General Discussion and Patch etc. under B* section when the game comes out!! hehe nice job!!

And yup a player guide section would be awesome!! Then I will have a place to post my guide that I'm working on.. hehe (Totally secret guide for everyone until I post hehe ^^)

Ok, I had a thought about things some more and would like to offer a suggestion that involves the creation of a PLAYER GUIDES SECTION.

Currently in PL Forum we have Archer, Warrior, Enchantress sections. Now you guys may know the stats on how many posts/views each sub-forum gets but in my limited experience having separate sub-forums for classes spreads the forum out thinner if you want to talk about COMBAT MECHANICS. If your stats prove that observation wrong, then ignore the following?>

Why don't you amalgamate the 3 classes forums into a COMBAT MECHANICS FORUM (for PvE) and sticky posts about each class at the top of that forum? I think it would promote discussion on classes (specialist) and combat (generalist) and be ONE place for everyone to check out? I think this is MORE EFFICICENT and less confusing?

Subsequently why don't you add ALL GUIDES (may except PvP and Trading) to the NEW PLAYER GUIDES sub-forum?

/Hope those suggestions are helpful. One place for all the peeps that like to discuss combat in detail and in general seems to work better imo. :)
